Is that a propaganda movie about the USA training bugs to eat NK crops which is the reason there crops are covered in bugs and not because of the lack of pesticides? And did they flamethrower the guy at the end? You think if they wanted it real authentic he would be speaking in English and not Korean..
Well, it is a real thing, just not available at Walmart yet. I wouldn't replace my heart but I wouldn't also mind having two artificial hearts to back it up. It's a bitch to have two kidneys and just one heart. As for removing limbs, that does have drawbacks. Unless you go for some sort of steel skeletal system then you will not gain superhuman strength. Luckily the skeletal system can be an exoskeleton. The other major drawback is that the stronger you make the system the more energy it uses, meaning you will have to have a bigger power source and bigger fuel reserve. They can be replaced by a battery, sure but it won't change anything, it's still a lot of weight. Second issue is heat. If you make it powerful then you'll need coolant system because systems are inefficient and produce waste heat. The ultimate bonus would be that it would allow for interchangeable parts. You could remove your legs and replace them with a low profile track or wheel platform. You could add more arms or switch arms for tentacles or more specialized tools like forklift forks or jackhammers. You could travel in true economy class by removing all the parts so you didn't need room for legs etc. Also, if you had a good stable movement platform you could just switch it off when you're at rest and you'd stay 'standing' or sitting or whatever you pleased. Personally I'd use a high torque quad wheel system with self sealing wheels. The axis of wheels could 'crawl' so that the rear wheels would go over the front wheels in circular motion if the terrain was difficult such as with steep stairs so I could climb with them. I would also weld heavy sloped armor system on the platform to keep me safe and include air filtration units as well as backup oxygen in case the filtration isn't adequate. And tons of cameras with various wavelength settings and so covering every direction. My eyes would not receive any light directly but there would be a backup prism system in case of a power failure. For power source I'd go with a primary battery system and an auxiliary gasoline unit. And not forgetting air conditioning unit and capacity to store food supplies and urine to water filtration set.
I'd rather just take my brain out and put it in a completely synthetic body. Less mess. Easier maintenance.
I think you may be significantly underestimating how much mess any plan that starts with "just take my brain out" would actually involve.
Yeah, I've still got the entire collection, minus one of the re-releases. Even now, it's still a completely relevant and poignant series to read as an adult.
Doesn't matter I want Space Marine MKVII armor. I want to be immortal and bad ass at the same time. Real as this maybe, it is not available beyond certain research facilities, mind you if I could volunteer to get limb replacements I would. I want to replace everything including parts of my brain and my heart, along with all other organs other than maybe too much skin, though even that would need to be replaced eventually.
Well, I'm trying to work hard right now to earn some savings. Why? Because, there's nothing worth my time being sold right now, except houses. But the key is not to blow your entire wealth on your house. Why? In a couple of decades some really good shit is going to become commercially available: -Household robots that cook your meals, clean up and allow you to simply sit back and relax with the gaming systems available couple decades from now -Cyborg/bionic enhancements starting from limbs and eventually whole organs and backup organs that increase your vitality -Gene therapy or something else to fix the telomere issue and at the very least slow down aging -Gene therapy that allows you to fix genetic defects And in a couple of decades my kids will hit University and I can freely focus on middle age crisis. I personally have a faulty left arm. Doctors took a muscle from my back and attached it to the shoulder to assist the damaged biceps muscle but overall the whole arm is not very good and would do with a replacement.
My experience as programmer also knows a third case: more initial mess, even more mess later. Though, I would also gradually replace the organic brain with something superior. Organic brain is damaged by modest accelerations beyond repair and is thus unsuitable for high performance space craft.
