International Medical Team

I leave for Honduras tomorrow as part of the Mountain of Hope medical team. MoH is strictly non-profit in the truest sense. All of us do this on our own dime or through funding provided by very gracious donors. The group was originally built of a nucleus of members from St. Peters Episcopal Church of Lake Mary, but we have always firmly believed in being inclusive of all faiths, creeds, and colors. The team we have now is international and comes from all walks of life.

Honduras has been hit hard by political and economic upheaval in recent years. The country still has the highest recorded murder rate (last I checked) anywhere in the world... and yes, higher than even any country in Africa, Afghanistan, or Iraq. I go anyway because I love the work we do there. I love the culture and I love the people i get to work alongside (many of whom are real friends of mine). Safety is always a concern, but we have been doing this for almost two decades now without any severe incident and intend to continue doing so. I say none of this to solicit or brag, but only to underline the belief that goodwill is still our best hope for building bridges between cultures. Domestic or foreign, I encourage everyone to do their part in whatever capacity they can afford.
