Mission 6, 7, and 8

So gentlepeople, here's what I know happened yesterday in the SoR.

Mission 6 was run early in the morning for the GMT folks. It was fairly dominated due to our air superiority and the pirate's stupidity. We took down 4 bandit mechs while only taking a single shot in return, to my Hatchetman. Luckily, we were able to pull out some good salvage, including a practically (all things considered) pristine P-Hawk K, which a number of our folk could use for replacement parts.

Mission 7 was also a, nearly, resounding success. Early efforts proved marvelous, with us immediately getting the bandits mixed force of mechs, vehicles, and infantry on the ropes. Unfortunately, as they became cornered and desperate, they fought with more ferocity instead of crumbling and falling in to retreat. After splattering a Savannah Master (which is recoverable as salvage), we tore apart the rest of their mech force one by one. Notably blowing their Hatchetman and Vindicator sky high, due to ammo explosions, as they flailed around trying to stand. With only the Scorpion, the Crusader, a Packrat, and 4 platoons of MG infantry left, we moved in recklessly for the kill. The Scorpion had a limb blown off and seemed to be down for the count, though still functional.

At this same time, the Packrat decided to show its teeth, launching a barrage against our VTOL gunship that sent it crashing into the ground. Status of the pilot, unknown.

Equally disastrous, Gheist in his P-Hawk decided to take on the 4 platoons of infantry who had sheltered in a depression. Moving in heedless to the combined firepower opposing him, he jumped down among them and tried to lay about with laser fire. A coordinated MG assault ripped between 1 and 2 tons of armor from the mech's frame, causing it to crash to the ground. As the infantry began swarming over him, Gheist was able to stand and back up a hill, only to be knocked down again by MG fire. Things were not looking good.

The Crusader, after being battered by autocannon and laser fire as well as having its leg nearly amputated, tried to stand and retreat, the last dying gasp of the commander. Again, this flailing set off an ammo explosion, sending bits and pieces everywhere. Unfortunate, a Crusader would have been delightful salvage.

As the Crusader exploded, a rain of fire was unleashed from Nahsty Balldangle's Hatchetman at the Packrat who had downed the VTOL, and revenge was attained.

With their commander dead and all mechs but the Scorpion (though it was essentially non-functioning, missing a leg and its PPC), the infantry pulled back, giving victory to the Shieldwall

As far as Mission 8, I know it was successful, though there were a lot of close calls and lots of repairs needed.

Magnus, what do we do from here? Time to do the Time Warp?

Pff, you're lucky you got the cheating Hatchetman that Magnus didn't let me have. Real men have mechs with as much internal as external armor.

Okay, so here's the Mission 8 de-breif.

The Capture of the Pirate dropship started off with a rocky start. It was a ragtag team of two Militia mechs, a random passing by Lightning, a single Corsair from the 'Borg, along with three 'mechs from the 'Borg as well.

Magnus, in his Blackjack, attempted to close with the dropship in the opening minutes of the engagement and came under immediate and devastating fire, being knocked prone and barely managing to get out of range. The rest of the forces, started engaging with the pirate's two Calvary VTOL's, their Assassin, Jenner, and Wolfhound. The command Griffin stayed back from the front, in attempt to coordinate the pirate forces.

While we were attempting to close range with the pirate 'mechs, a number of us came under indirect and direct fire from the distant dropship, forcing us to be very careful about where we poked our heads out. Once we closed, the Jenner was knocked out swiftly, from converging fire of my Fire Javelin, David's P-Hawk, and Helkan's Mongoose. One of the Calvary VTOL's was DFA'ed by Clint Punchmaster, knocking it out of the air. The second Calvary was knocked out of the sky primarily by Helkan's Mongoose, and a few others firing on it. Once we were sure the Jenner was never getting up again, the Assassin befell a similar fate, being strafed by the Lightning and being fired upon by Magnus. It was shortly after this that the Lightning suffered catastrophic damage, and managed to land safely.

After taking many long range potshots at both the Wolfhound and the Griffin, we decided to split our forces. David held our rear along with the Corsair against the Wolfhound and Griffin, while the rest of us circled east then north to get to the dropship without coming under fire. While we were in route, the Wolfhound finally gained enough damage to be knocked over, and the pilot self-destructed to deny us his salvage and himself as prisoner. At this time, our Militia Mongoose(Helkan) and Fire Javelin(Trevnor), along with Clint Punchmaster's Hatchetman and Magnus's Blackjack reached the dropship. It was there that we forced the dropship to surrender, while Helkan's Mongoose and my Fire Javelin moved south behind the last remaining Griffin. At that time, all of our remaining forces moved in for the final kill. That Griffin fought until his destruction, attaining our victory!
