MY dick just fucking exploded. Like no shit. I fucking want one. But i want one thats 4 times as big and used as a mobil cannon. Just like Seras Victoria from Hellsing.. holy shit.. it needs to be that big.
Those are pretty cool. Mainly for show though. They should add more/stronger magnets so they can get the velocity up. They're at about slingshot velocity right now. If they could get the velocity up to even airsoft levels they could do some serious damage. The low velocity is a big reason the slugs are hitting sideways too (although they'd probably have to add some fins of some sort to really make them fly straight). I had some specialty bullets for my .22LR that had slugs twice as long (and heavy) as a normal 22LR (they used a 22 Short case so they were the same overall length). Since they had a smaller case with less powder, they didn't have the velocity for the rifling to stabilize the bullet, so they tended to tumble. They'd tear nasty holes in things tho.
Well according the their website it goes upto ~40m/s which is about 100 FPS. That's about the same as a cheap airsoft gun isn't it?
Nope. Thats' not even on par with most paintball guns. Paintball, at least up here, is regulated to max 300 FPS. Airsoft are generally a bit higher than that.
Even a cheap $20 battery-powered airsoft gun shoots projectiles faster than the eye can follow. Those mag gun projectiles were going slow enough to be seen even on that fairly low quality video. Like I said, about slingshot velocity. You notice they didn't shoot it at wood or something similar. It would probably knock holes in drywall though, if the slugs hit end-on.
I love the concept, but I think I personally would have done enough testing to get the velocity higher before I went through all the trouble of making it into a "gun". There's several things they could do to get the velocity higher. Coring out the projectiles would probably help a lot. They may be limited by the reaction time of their sensors though.
Should convert it to a pull-push system. basically adding in a sequence where the electro magnets push the round as well. When the round begins the firing sequence the round should be pulled in towards the electro magnet just like in the video but then after the round gets past a specific point in the electro magnet it switches to pushing the round into the next electro magnet that is also pulling it at the same time. Could also go to stepped capacitor based design that stores higher amounts of energy until it is needed for discharging down the barrel. Think he used a single capacitor in his design. Would be also more practical to make a larger scale rifle with a back pack for supplying the power to the rifle.
Oh, it's the same CG-42. Who has the skills can assemble it. All the good, but its speed was not happy. There are more powerful samples, but they usually singly charged. As this. IMHO currently better to make a railgun. Moreover collect even magazine railgun with much high speed quite capable of many. As this(>300 m/s and a magazine on the 3 shots+1 is already in the barrel).
The guy did a really nice job. If rifling was enabled the tumbling would stop. I believe capacitors work better with AC current. If he were to use AC current, use rifling, more capacitors, and a more complex control unit to get the push/pull effect, the government would come in and take it.
