Just got DNA analysis results back on my family ancestry. I'm a true American mutt.

    Mother
    Father
We expected way more GB/Irish on the mother's side, considering how far we have been able to trace the families. Was quite a surprise. We knew about the two Amerindian ancestors though.

Anyone else have this done? Pretty interesting.

not had it done but a aunt, traced our family back.

we are Welsh with a hint of Germanic. Some time during the Saxon migration one of our ancestors would of got it on with a Saxon.

be interested to see if DNA confirms this. Will look into it.

Well, I know one part of my family is traced back to the 1600s in Finland, and I was born in Finland, so I'd assume I'm a very effing high percentage of the Finland/northwest Russia category there, but obviously there could be some other traces as well.

My daughter would be a weird mix, quarter japanese, 50% finnish, 25% european mix

Father's side comes from a small island in Karelia, long time fishermen. Dad said that the 'elders' would eat fish without taking the spines out - they'd be taking the fish on one side of mouth and the spines would come out from the other.
My grandfather burned his home when the russians invaded. Then during interim peace he took his family back and rebuilt the house. Then Barbarossa began and he burnt his home the second time. Third time's the charm - didn't have to burn down the third house. Great grandfather would keep making his fishing nets despite living far inland.

Mother's side are from northern Finland, she never told of the phases of her lineage but her parents were working class in an industrial town. The few stories I know was that they were fairly cruel, pet cat would go missing and incidentally her father's footsteps would lead to a fishing hole on a nearby river. She basically moved to the other side of country and so, so I suppose she didn't want to look back all that much.

I suppose I'm largely finnish with some russian mixed in. Especially in the Karelian region there used to be no real borders and the many tribes in that region would largely mix, there were finnish tribes and tribes that were related to finnish tribes but had a distinct language similar to finnish.
Great grandpa (or his father, I can't remember) took part in the construction of St. Petersburg by hauling stone to the construction. According to family lore he'd charge twice for the same load while some would charge up to three times.

I can trace my mother's linneage as far back as Scotland and Germany, via one ancestor who came across from Erskine with his wife in the 1760s and settled in the same town in northern Vermont where his descendents live to this day, and a Hessian mercenary who settled down to farm in Nova Scotia after the American Revolution. We can trace the Hessian back a bit further than the Scottish line (apparently I'm distantly connected to royalty via an illegitimate daughter of Sir Walter Raleigh), we don't really know much past that great-great-great-great-great-grandfather, though I suppose someone might if they rummaged around the parish records of Renfrewshire thoroughly enough.

My father's side is pretty murky past a few generations, though one of his grandmothers was off-the-boat Irish. My surname most likely reflects some English blood as well... but beyond that, who knows. Might be interesting to play around with genotyping some day.

we have done my dad's with ancestry.com but not my mom's yet, just keep forgetting to get around to it.
    48% british isles
    33% scandinavian
    13% central european
    6% uncertain

Weird that it didn't break my dad's down to Ireland and great britain but lumped it all together. We had always suspected more german and austrian but the 33% scandinavian was a bit of a surprise. Actually I'm wondering if they haven't changed their service because on my dad's central european is france to the czech republic which we thought of central being more to the east with poland and not having france in it.

Well, I know that I've got some Scandinavian, with English, a bit of German and possibly Scottish. Don't have the fancy breakdown though.

We've traced it back without a DNA confirmation.
Dad's side is Hungarian, Czech, Romanian for the most part.
Mom's is Irish, British, American Indian, (and surprise surprise, a very small dose of African from some frisky slave owner/slave activity centuries ago).

Can't see the Indian or African. I'm about as white as you can possibly get. The sun has to wear shades to ward off the reflection from my skin.

My mother's side is Scottish for quite a ways back: my maternal grandparents immigrated from Scotland in the 50s, and my grandfather's family lineage can be traced back to the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314. On my father's side, my paternal great grandparents immigrated to the US from Norway in the early 1900s, and the Norwegian lineage goes back a ways from there. Now, I know most of this thanks to my paternal grandmother who has ton quite of bit of genealogical work for our family. Her ancestors immigrated from England in the 1830s and went out west—and from there it's a hodge-podge of "American" (even some American Indian a few generations back).

I have nearly translucent skin. You can see straight through most of the blue veins. I always fear that UV goes straight through the skin all the way to my tissues.
