I didn't even realize a sloth bear was a thing, apparently the human inability to generate original names strikes again. Point remains unchanged however, just no convenient size comparison with actual predators
They original finder of Sloth Bear thought it was related to sloths and not bears though he did notice it looked a heck of a lot like a bear. 2 years later it was recognized to be an actual bear so it's not like it was such a close call that scientific community had actually spent decades debating it
Plus, a lot of taxonomy is basically the animal nerd version of posting "FIRST" on a big internet announcement. "I found it first, I'm calling it whatever I want/popped into my head right this second". And all the other scientists are like "NOOOO, don't name it that, name it after MY great-aunt!".
It still beats purely numeric classification. Kindom: 4 Phylum: 12 Class: 20 Order: 11 Family: 5 Genus: 9 Species: 1 Or simply 4.12.20.11.5.9.1 -Bah, you want a real predator look at 4.5.8.20.15.2.6 !
First thought: Awesome! Second thought: That crossguard is completely impractical. It won't stop another lightsaber from slicing off the Main blade emitter.
Carefully optimistic. I've got feeling it will end up being good Star Wars movie. Nothing really special, but definitely worth watching.
Warning contains penguin rape http://dailydigestnews.com/2014/11/...-britain-seemingly-killing-porpoises-for-fun/
Feeling good overall. Those in flight shots of the falcon are incredible. I actually liked the knightly appearance of the cross guard. What has me on edge though is the R2D2 unit head on...on.... is that a fuckmothering soccer ball?
I like that what they showed wasn't as "sparkly" as the last 3 movies, if that makes any sense. Hard to describe but the picture and feel seemed a bit, I don't know, grittier? I can't describe what I'm trying to describe.
Yes, they've definitely upped the quality by leaps and bounds. Using 'specular shader' for all materials and having no decals etc. makes shit look like plastic toys. I've been dying for more Star Wars movies and I really like the art improvements they've made. For me, they can't really fuck this up. I'm just going to like it for being SW and it's not like they're going to put badly cut raw materials and voice synch fails on the theater screen. I JUST HOPE IT'S NOT HFR! I wan't my 3D in 24fps..
The Naboo(Blinn object) starfighter left you butthurt too didn't it? Good game at least. I ain't even gonna talk about the Naboo royal cruiser.
I think there are (in the now legends stuff ) lightsabers with crossguard lightsaber blades. To me that seems a horrible idea even for the user.
Well no. It's just the set up for that particular crossguard doesn't do anything practical. If the cross blades met and intersected the main blade, then it would work just fine for trapping another blade in there. These things look like their more for CQC than anything else.
well you don't see them ever doing 'blade slide' maneuvers with the sabers either, I've often wondered whether that'd be impossible because of the nature of the sabers, or if it's just that they haven't had the right character to use that technique. It's a totally sith thing to do though, however you're correct those crossguards would do nothing -defensively- very well, but I could imagine the offensive uses quite well, just take a look at this image or this now if any of those fighters had those crossguard blades... well their opponent would be quite dead, now wouldn't they? though, you'd have to be quite careful or you might end up impaling yourself on the reverse side...
It would be funny if the sabers, whenever they intersected, would just fuse together and break the containment fields and the hot plasma within would just explode engulfing everything in the vicinity while sending powerful shockwaves. *ouch* "Whatever you do, don't cross the sabers!"
I think there also is a style where there are 2 short blades that form a y at the base of the main blade. Where the blades actually do intersect. Cant link since im on my phone but wookieepedia describes the crossguard saber as having 2 blades. The main and a 2nd shorter thinner one whos emitter is next to the main at an angle. but done so you could catch a blade between the 2. Also there is a lightsaber tonfa. The handle is a tonfa and a blade comes out the one end.
