I still find it extremely funny when in mecha animes they use floppy disks for data storage. like a floppy disk would be able to hold enough to move a giagantic humanoid machine.

    though depending on data size...

found a video on how to make those.

may not be the best way.

Anime from trigger this season as well.

Also a anime with a bear as a main character called kuma miko. It's a funny show from what I've seen.

that kuma miko episode was funny. best line was totally when the bear goes "it's okay. i've been neutered". was such a you're not helping moment.

also the episode 1 that just came out for macross delta was much better than the preview episode 1. kinda like the first episode of frontier though how random hero gets into a downed fighter (though they've all kinda done that except for 7 and plus.) even in the original rick/hikaru gets into a fighter before he joins the military. only one i can think of where the hero is already in the military is zero and plus and zero shin gets into a downed fighter.

Has anyone else been watching Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans? I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying it. I feel like too many anime series have super-weak characterization and rely on way too many tired old tropes as set dressing for action/fight scenes, but this show is definitely doing a good job of avoiding a lot of that.

I feel like that one is the only one that is truly in line with the original (at least with the fighting) and with how the gundams are not indestructable just better (though since most are a hundred years old the new current stuff is at least equal). and it is a more plausible "newtype" (the alaya whatever system the kids have). i actually think iron blooded orphans is better than pretty all the series that have come out recently. it's the only one so far that isn't just a clone. out of the recent stuff.

    i enjoyed it alot.

Agreed, but I also felt like they did have certain elements that are like callbacks to older series without being too hamfisted about it, which was enough to make me nostalgic but not overdone or feeling repetitive.

    I watched it entirely.

    I thought it was good. A 7/10. Maybe even a 7.5

The only thing I don't like about the show is when it kills off a character only for them to not be dead and was just done to stir a bit of emotions. Unless they are a "bad guy" nope they get to actually die and not come back.

like towards the end with Ein in the giant gundam and shows him killing a few main characters.. But they actually aren't dead. Would have been a much better show to just leave them dead and for the survivors to truly understand the horrors of war.

Supposedly they are doing another season. Somewhat have a feeling the tekkaden will turn into the Titans and become the bad guys. I say this because the kids show no understanding of what they are actually doing when they are killing someone along with being emotionless when doing it. They cant seem to grasp why their enemies are mad when they kill one of them. But then get all butthurt when one of their comrades gets injured and then go on killing more people. They also have a zero respect for honor which I find disturbing. They only really care about killing what they see as the enemy.

I think originally all those main characters ein "killed" were going to die but they changed it due to negative fan reaction. apparently no one (fans) wanted them to die.

So you can only die if you are a "bad guy".

what a loud of horse shit.

still say that tekkaden will turn into the titans or should in my opinion. it just seems like a natural evolution in a universe in which a renegade army of children that don't seem to understand the actual consequences of war.

This is the first i can remember mercenaries being in any gundam series. Im interested in what will happen. I mean what if gjallarhorn decides to hire them? I think they got a contract at the end of season that sounds like a "rest and rebuild" with little to no action.

Kabaneri of the iron fortress I think it's called. Just started this season.

It's a old samurai (feudal Japan) style anime but has steampunk heavy theme with a zombie like enemy. Animations and art style is awesome and story is really good so far after the first episode.

well 2nd episode of delta was better. felt more macrossey. I think this will be a mis of frontier and 7 (depending more on how much they focus on the music group as a whole). also one comment i saw.

i so wanted to do a "you must be new here" I mean mythology has been in macross since the beginning. the 2 carriers (Daedalus and Prometheus) are from greek mythology. VF fighters are valkyries. pretty sure there was other stuff. there has been mythology in every series too in some form. most of the destroids from the original have historic names. phalanx, spartan.

The name of the Macross ship is Elysium.

I'm guessing freya will take the minmei route while mirage Jenius will take the misa hayase route.

So with that being said, mirage Jenius is the obvious choice.

One of the walkeru pilots is named Ernest Johnson....HHAAAAAA

Then for two of the singers kaname buccaneer

    And reina prowler

Where the hell do they get these names.

i think i read somewhere that most if not all the delta characters (well delta pilots and the walkere singers) have something to do with aviation whether it's a maneuver, plane or person. the male MC last name is immelman.

    others in delta squadron.

    Arado Mölders, Chuck Mustang

    walkure (or however it's spelled)
    • Mikumo Guynemer,
      • Makina Nakajima
I think Arado Molders is a combination of the arado company (built planes for germany in WW II) and werner molders who was a pilot in the luftwaffe. Chuck Mustang I'm guessing is Chuck Yeager who did fly a mustang in WW2 (first man to break the sound barrier). no idea about kaname or reina but the buccaneer and prowler are definitely aircraft.

    blackburn buccaneer

and the prowler is still in service with the US navy.

almost every characters name has to do with aviation in some way. Like Mikumo's last name is that of some french aircraft designer/WW 1 pilot. The other one with the last name of nakajima well that is a japanese aircraft company. you have to know the kate torpedo bombers. those were built by nakajima. the floatplane zeros were nakajima (most of the zeros were mitsubishi).

I think Ernest Johnson is referring to kelly johnson one of the designers of the blackbird. not sure about the ernest name because it seems to be common in aviation.

Prowlers are absolute horrible horrible aircraft. I know I had to deal with them when I was stationed at cherry point. Very loud, slow, 3 to 4 seat aircraft that needed more engine maintenance per flight hour then anything else by far.

need to see the characters more before I will pass judgment.

    Edit

From what I've seen she is like the opposite of her name sake, quiet and reserved.

It is about time the male lead in a macross show ends up with someone military again. Since the original it's all been singers. also the love triangle (i'm assuming freya, hayate and mirage) doesn't really feel like a triangle. and it feels like freya and hayate will only be friends. not that i'm complaining. actually i'd prefer it if hayate and mirage ended up doing a max and miriya instead of a hikaru love triangle.

Only the 2nd episode so far. In the original Macross the triangle didn't form till about half way, and minmei and hikaru didn't have anything till about 4 to 6 episodes in.

It could also be a hayate/freya/other guy from windemere who was freyas arranged marriage partner who is now a pilot triangle.

And if you remember misa and hikaru had a bumpy start.
