I'm still on the fence about Mechina. I try listening them every once in a while and I just feel many of the songs are bit too busy for my tastes. Their overall theme is good though.
It wasn't so much that the songs were busy, but they consistently use a specific hall-like reverb, on basically every instrument. It sorta grew on me though, so I've begun to enjoy them.
I understand what you mean. I've been browsing through their stuff again and there's several tracks I actually like very much. Conqueror might be one of best examples of what I like about them Grows on you like habit of drinking coffee. Odd comparison maybe but felt fitting for me.
Brothers, let me tell you a tale. In years past I used to love waking up to grave growls and breakdowns. It not only managed to break through my otherwise nearly-unwakable state, but I woke up with a smile on my face and some solid energy. That love, however, conflicted with the more badass and awesome love I have for my wife- who is not nearly as enthusiastic about metal as I am. I don't know, I guess waking up to that sort of calamity isn't for everyone. Obviously though, I was going to sacrifice that habit. I figured out another way to get my fix though. I bought a pretty badass portable bluetooth speaker awhile ago, so I just link it to my phone, bring it into the bathroom, crank the volume, and begin my day amidst dexterous picking and furious double bass. Today I had a song in my head, All that Remains' "For We Are Many", so I brought up spotify, searched "for we", and it popped up as the first result, so I hit play as I stepped into the shower. The song finished and so it just kept going as it often does. However, because I had played it off that search, the next song up was another result for my search. It was a song called For We Are Forever. ...and that, my friends, is how I was first exposed to Caliban. I've since spent the morning listening to their album, Gravity, that just came out in March, and I fucking love it. I needed to share:
