I'm not certain on any of this. But I saw somewhere someone saying Epic paid $11.50 per copy of the game. I don't know if that is for the pre orders Future sales (under the exclusivity). I have not idea what (or where) that $11.50 is from. I did see it on the MWO forums.

Also I think they may be around 4,000 refunds right now (that's copies). Supposedly the entire rougetech community which is 4,000 by itself is getting refunds.

If that $11.50 I saw is on the preorders I think PGI got a measly $230,000 from Epic. If they already had to do 4,000 of just $50 refunds (or $200,000)...

Also I wonder how much of the "the web team screwed up" was a screw up. I mean they defied russ and released the website on purpose so people would ask about Epic. I mean how many employees would be pissed if they didn't know about the Epic deal till now either.

Right? And they just said "per copy" and I haven't found anything else on it. So I'm inclined to not believe Epic would pay that little unless they also think it's a risk taking the game as an exclusive. Sure Epic is terrible. But are they that terrible to pay so little?

 

That's not really a question. The question is, if they paid so little, would PGI jump at it, in spite of the community backlash they can't really be so stupid as to believe wasn't going to happen. Because you know they'd have to be able to cover the refunds afterwards so a good chunk of that is not going to be able to be put towards further development.

 

Unless they severely underestimated the number of refunds. I've seen 20,000 - 35,000 as the number of preorders. If it 20,000 they only got $230,000. If they already had to refund 4,000 (assuming all $50) that's $200,000 right there. PGI can't be that stupid to think the refunds would be low, can they?

 

I think you're missing a zero somewhere in there.

20,000 preorders at 50$ is $1,000,000. So they've lost maybe 15-20% of their revenue.

 

Because all other exclusives did get paid alot by Epic. Then again all of those had way more preorders than MW 5 did. I don't think Epic is enthusiastic about MW 5 and wouldn't be surprised if they got shit from Epic for it.

(Fig is a kickstarter platform but also invests. I think. And I believe only one project getting funded at a time)

Phoenix point did make over $2 million before Epic even came along. (I'm assuming now) but it seems like most of the time Epic sees a game being crowdfunded, doing well and is like "hey we'll give you all this money to go exclusive with us" while it sounds like PGI went to Epic.

 

I believe this is speculated from the comments made by/about Phoenix Point, not sure the reference but I remember someone stating that Epic had paid them enough for the exclusive to offset the cost of having to refund their crowd funding. Though I can't imagine PGI doing it without getting paid, being in a smaller pool simply means there's less money to go around, it's a high risk with middling potential reward, unless they got a check. I have no doubt however that PGI will never admit to being paid. They might allude to it, but they'll never out and out say it.

 

It's really loose speculation since no one really has numbers.
