    Honorific Charter

I, Otäck Kulandinglar, third of his name, Speaker of the Word, do by the grace and the secret decree of the most venerable Seeker, to whom be all honor and glory, confirmed by the will of Borf, being endowed with the Supreme Knowledge of the Meat and Mead, to every one who shall see these Letters Decretal thrice greeting:

Whereas by an Act passed in the thirty-first year of the Reign of our Predecessor, Otäck Kulandinglar, second of his name, the Speaker of the Word was empowered to establish more Holy Orders and Honorific Societies, to the intent, among other purposes, that thereby Borf’s Word might be better set forth, children brought up in learning, Inebriated nourished in the glory of the Meat and Mead, and brewers of spritis of all stripe might have good stipend: and the Speaker was also empowered to make Statutes for the Institutions by Letters Patent, under His Great Seal.

And whereas His Magnificence, Otäck the Third, by Letters Patent, under the Great Seal, dated the sixth day of June, in the year of the Great Awakening one thousand five hundred and forty-one, founded an Honorific Society, to consist of one Grand Master and other Knights of the Word: and His said Benevolence ordained that the said Grand Master and Knights of the Word should be one Holy Order, and have perpetual succession under the name of “The Grand Master and Holy Order of the Knights Defender of the Meat and Mead, of Borf, and of the sainted Firsts” and that they should be governed by certain Statutes to be afterwards given to them.

And whereas Statutes were afterwards given to the said Knights Defender one of which is entitled “De natura moribus notis equitum.” It is ordained that members of this Honorific, should they be chosen, learned in the Word of Borf, of good reputation, sound faith, and pious life, and skilful in the art of teaching, and with at a minimum term of service of one full passing of the calendar of the Great Awakening. And also that the Knights of the Order should, in teaching and Defense of the Word, observe such rules, and use such authors and order of teaching, as the said Grand Master and Chapter, should prescribe.

And whereas Statutes were afterwards given to the said Knights Defender one of which is entitled “Annona propter spem subditis aditam.” It is ordained that Prospects, of good natural parts, must be sponsored by an extant member of the said Holy Order, that each Knight may only thus put forth for sponsorship once every six turnings of the moon of Earth, commonly referred to, in this, the time of Great Awakening, as months. Upon the countenance of these Prospects must judgement be passed by all of this most Glorious Assembly. Should said Assembly fail to reach firm acclaim, with lack of descent, the Prospect shall be removed from active consideration. If indeed acclaim is found in concurrence, the Prospect shall thence be bestowed with the Trappings of Honor and invited within the bosom of the Defenders of the Meat and Mead. Should their prospect fail, the Sponsor shall not be able to put forth anew until their appointed time has come again.

And whereas it hath been represented to us that pursuant to the last recited Act of Chapter of the said Grand Master and Chapter of the Holy Order, the Venerable Skwisgaar Skwigelf, Brewmaster, now Right Hand to the Speaker of the Word was appointed first Knight of the said Honorific Order dated the ninth day of January, in the year of the Great Awakening one thousand five hundred and forty-seven.

Now know ye, that we ever earnestly desiring to support every Institution for the advancement of the Learning and Protection of Borf, and trusting that the said Holy Order of the Knights Defender of the Meat and Mead, so established under our Enlightened sanction, and the authority of our Word, may, under the blessing of Almighty Borf, prove an eminent source of good to our loving subjects, certain knowledge, and mere motion, have granted, constituted, declared and appointed, and by these presents, for us, our heirs, and successors, do grant, constitute, declare, and appoint, that the said Otäck the Third, and all persons who now are, or who shall hereafter be duly admitted, Members of the said Knighthood, in pursuance of the before-mentioned regulation, or according to such rules and regulations as may be hereafter made and established by the said Grand Master and Honorific Society under their Common Seal, with the consent of Sir Skwisgaar Skwigelf, H.O.K.D.M.M, for the time being, for the admission of Members thereof, shall be and remain for ever hereafter, one Body Politic and Corporate, under and by the name of “The Knights Defender of the Word of Borf,” and by that name shall and may have perpetual succession, and a Common Seal, with power to break, alter, and make anew such Seal, from time to time, at their will and pleasure; and by that name shall be governed and continued according to the provisions of the said Act of Enlightenment, made and passed in the third year of our reign; and by that name shall have and enjoy all the property, rights, and privileges which are assured by the said Act to the Order therein contemplated and authorised; or are incident to a Noble Society established by our Royal Charter.

In Witness whereof, we have caused these our letters to be made Patent. Witness Ourself, at our conveyance, the Deliverer of the Word, the Sixth Day of June in the third year of our Reign.
