Hey all, I didn't want to clog up the Arma 3 Night thread with stuff so I decided to start anew. I mentioned in there that I was working on a unit insignia for use in Arma 3. I ported the existing ones over which was easy enough, but figured I should take a crack at fancying them up a bit to flex my very-rusted-out Photoshop skills.

Here's version 1.0 of the patch that I previewed in the Arma 3 Night thread. Here's a .paa Dropbox copy converted for use in A3 if you want to use it.

I'm also certainly willing to entertain some ideas if there's some sort of decision on what an officially-sanctioned patch should look like.

    Enjoy!

Since you're being so generous with these patches why don't you join us on a Tuesday for ARMA night? Or any other night you see people on TS. We'd be happy to have a new ARMA player.

    This is fantastic.

I am trying to figure out the best way to put this in, I know I can assign it to units in game through the mission... but I am no good at scripting, I am trying to figure it out. I have a squad URL set up for us, but that requires a image file, it does not want to take the paa.

I will most likely drop in next Tuesday, time permitting

Ahh, I just checked and Arma Squads does the converting; here's the regular PNG. Let me know if the link doesn't work, or if it needs a different file format, or if there's problems with the file.

can we use this in star citizen? (if they let us)
I'm going to wait for reverse the verse, and ask a question, in pvp/ fps, can units upload a patch (link picture) so it's easier to identify our selves?

Oh for sure. If SC does that and makes it a logo on the side of a ship or something just tell me what dimensions and file format you need it in and I can whip up something right easy-like; It would be easy to give it that 'well-worn, on the side of a ship' look, too.

FYI I also would like a few real life copies of this, but I don't have the money yet. (maybe after my video card)

I know we already sent some batches to the CIG crew, but i'm going to remind them of what we have. I'll record their response and post it here.

    That looks awsome!

One of the groups that has been joing us for ARMA ops, my airsoft team, are also interested in having somthing like that done for thier patch. Image below:

Also, for those of you that know Jim he has rented out ARMA 3 server space. Ill get the details posted in the ARMA night thread once its up and running.

Going to show my ignorance to the patch system in game.

Can we have multiple unit patches running? Say for different squads or per player?

I'm not very well versed with it yet, but technically you could; although it would be a bit of a pain. You'd have to make sure your playerID is listed in the squad.xml for both squads, and every time you wanted to change Insignia you'd have to go into your Arma 3 profile settings and replace the path to the squad.xml in the Squad URL field.

could... Just two patches be made, and run "two squads" or does that break the grouping system (I don't know I haven't played arma) or could the same squad, just just two different patches?

I think - if you wanted to use the 'Borg shields as examples - you could theoretically have a few separate squads; one for Borg as a whole and one for each ætt. Someone would have to maintain the different squad.xmls to be sure they always match when people are added or removed (because if your playerID isn't in the squad.xml you can't use the patch) but at that point it would just be up to the individual person to decide which squad.xml to use.

As far as I know the squad url\squad.xml system doesn't have any effect on anything outside of just putting the image on your uniform or vehicle.

You can also bundle unit patches with user-created missions and addons, and access them in-game via the Virtual Arsenal or a couple of console commands.

They are real and quite high quality. No velcro backing was my only complaint. But I have fixed that :)

I don't want the paper ones, I want the real ones, / high quality, maybe if I could find a link to the original buy thread, or if somebody wanted to re post it....(and my tax return money gets here)
