They could've announced they were releasing early and gotten death threats from some loser. There's always somebody these days...
Most people get multiple death threats for everything. People play too much into those sad little souls. At the end of day it's probably some 11 year old "free range" kid who's mother is looking the other way and he manages to quickly sneak a death threat past her eyes. I stay indoors, death threat. I go outside - another death threat. Make a sandwich - death threat. Throw the sandwich away - death threat. At times I couldn't make it to school cafeteria without having received a number of death threats when I was 15. Now, how many game developers have ever actually been murdered? Just saying. But sure, it's awesome to post a death threat anonymously on your own account and then go "ooh, I'm such a victim, pity me! did you see that? I'm in danger boohoo"
Exactly. Announce that you're releasing an expansion and someone issues a death threat. Pick the wrong color for UI and you get a death threat. "Oh, I suppose I need to cancel my speech at games convention because some 11 year old doesn't like what I'm doing"
The internet has got way out of control, seeing as it was only originally prototyped to prove scientifically and unequivocally that the world is full of arseholes.
I wouldn't go so far as to suggest anyone was "faking" getting threats. But it's hard to judge credibility of threats online. It's also a lot easier to mash the "send" button while in a fit of pique than to wait until tomorrow morning to walk to the post office and buy a stamp to send your hatemail the old-fashioned way. Not quite the same cooling-off period, either.
I'm still enjoying the game. So far...In my corner of the cosmos... The History so far as I understand it is that the Vy'Keen fought against the Sentinals. The GEK, waited and plotted and raised an Army in secret to attack the Sentinals AND the Vy'Keen. Apparently the Vy'Keen and the Gek are on again off again combatants? I'm starting to notice things too... Like I can tell (I think) which faction the big ships belong to. Anyways... My new spaceship! The Kayushunam S48!
That doesn't look half bad - interesting design. Like I said, when they fix it and it's a bit cheaper, I'll give it go.
The plot thickens http://www.pcgamer.com/no-mans-sky-is-being-investigated-by-the-advertising-standards-authority/
Honestly I think at this point anybody still mad about this that didn't return the game just likes being mad. They should just rebrand it as a $60 outrage simulator.
“I can't speak about other countries, but in the UK [there] are regulations about providing advertising material that could mislead a consumer in some way—[for example] displaying things that do not, in fact, exist...” I really wish 'Merica would get with the fucking program on this.
wait you want regulations so products have to be advertised correctly. HAHA good freaking luck with that. politicians pockets are always lined with crap loads of money. or are former executives of said companies
