I am sorry if this is a double post, but I could not find anything regarding D&D on here, mainly because it would not search for just D&D. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone was interested in getting a group together to run some D&D 3.5, Pathfinder or even some D&D Next play testing. I have never DMed and would like to find someone who is interested in DMing. However if that is not possible, I will try my hand at it. I have had this PnP and TT gaming itch for a while and have not been able to scratch it. Now with these virtual tabletop programs, it seems like it is a lot easier to run something like this over the internet. So, any interest?
I would be interesting in a campaing. I wouldnt mind playing it in minecraft also. but anywhere is cool, chat game would be fin.
I was thinking about using Maptool or FantasyGrounds. Maptool is free, FG is not. http://www.rptools.net/index.php?page=maptool Chat games are cool too. I did a lot of AD&D over mIRC back in the 90s. EDIT: Tabletop Forge is another option http://tabletopforge.com/ Like I said, I would like to find someone else to DM, but I will attempt it if no one else will.
I see that you already found tabletop forge, which I have not used, but looks good. I am interested in this at least in the abstract. I have DMed in the past (D&D 3.5 and pathfinder), but have the most fun as a sort of tactician player.
So far, the folks that are interested what would be your preference? I have the play test stuff for D&D Next, and I can get a hold of the 3.5 stuff. What would be the best times for you? I am available about any weekday after 8:30 until midnight,on wed. a little earlier. Weekends fluctuate, I have my son every other weekend, so on those weekends I would be available after 9:30 ish, unless he wanted to join in and if no one minded having a 10 year old playing as well (big if right now). Other weekends are usually pretty open, obviously other things come up. Like next weekend I have a wedding to go to.
I'm slightly more familiar with 3.5, for the obvious reason being I don't know jack about NEXT. Unless you can quickly summarize the difference.
I am not proficient enough in either to really give you every difference. But I will tell you they have kind of combined the 4.0 and 3.5 systems. So for like a fighter, you have expertise dice that can be spent on different skills either offensively or defensively. Once example is you can spend your expertise dice to bolster your attack, or you can hold it and use it to block or parry an attack. Or if you are a defensive fighter come to the aid of another party member with that dice and depending on what level you have, you have so many dice. I think you start with 1d6. For clerics you have kind of a combination of the old and some new stuff. You still have to prepare your major spells, but you have these things called Orlsons, they are basically at will abilities. I know there is a lot more to it, if you are interested, anyone can get the playtest stuff. http://www.wizards.com/dnd/DnDNext.aspx
I'm not touching that website with a 30 foot pole Jacob. I'm toying around with the playtest kit now for NEXT. My only problem with it is that it just doesn't look like there's much available for it, whereas with 3.5 I can make a pretty damn good character and be guaranteed a rich world with plenty of monsters in the bestiary to choose from. Also there's a bunch of premade modules for 3.5 that'll make it easier for a first time DM like ghizmo if he can't find someone else.
Why not? There is no law forbidding you from browsing it, also i changed my mind and i am playing kobold gunslinger/tinkerer. How much Int is considered high? i want to speak something else then draconic.
I have the 3.5 books. If there was overwhelming want for pathfinder I would try to find some books. People seem to be leaning towards 3.5, so that is probably what we will do. Tzeentch is right, I will be finding something pre-made at least to start out with. Either way Jacob I think people would frown upon posting links to downloading copyright breaking stuff on the forums. That just makes us look bad, all that stuff gets indexed.
If you have less than 10 int I believe you are considered to be mentally handicapped. edit: BUT WHO NEEDS INT WHEN YOU HAVE 19 STRANTH!? WOOOT SKALDBORRF!
