honestly I'm fairly sure this was more commonly known as an 'oh fuck, a ditch!' wall, often shortened to a simple 'oh fuck!'. At least by anyone who ever found it in the dark.
It'll be hard, but I think I can give it my full attention. Someone has to stand up to defend this kind of thing, and I personnally salute those that make these kinds anime.
The thing that makes fan service in Kill La Kill much more bearable than usual, is how Trigger made it one of the running jokes of the series. Heck, even important concepts of the story are linked to fan service. It's stupid, genius and hilarious at the same time. Kill La Kill may be the only anime series with gratuitous fan service I will defend. Anyways, here's some "off-topic" crap: Brb. Getting mah christmas tree.
the way in which Kill la Kill creates a story in which fan service is not just reasonable, it's mandatory, uses the plot without remorse to achieve this goal, and then ribs itself mercilessly for doing so is masterful. It's worth it to watch just to see how they're going to skirt the border of reasonable (or blatantly ignore it) next XD Spoiler: mild NSFW
I can't wait until this is a real thing, I am going to replace all my organs and limbs with robotic parts and computers!
