I'm not sure what is going on. I guess a Congressional investigation has faulted Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Google for engaging in anti-competetive monopoly tactics. And Apple is dragging Epic Games and Valve into it, something about how Epic Games coming along didn't make Valve change their pricing/cut. How am I just finding out this has been going on? I'm still not sure what the Apple vs Epic thing is for. I knew Apple and EG were beefing over Fortnite, and Apple is trying to drag Valve into it, but I was not aware of this. This is positively delightful.
So much easier just being a rank and file RnD dude than having to think about whether a game irks one or another political faction or megacorp...
Figures. The only reason our Congress is going after these guys is because they already crossed them for reasons that have nothing to do with this (recent politics I won't get into here). Would be nice if they were less selective when calling out monopolies (big pharma, oil, communications, agriculture, etc.) but I will take what I can get. Monopolies are never good for the average citizen. My only annoyance with the recent bonanza of Steam-wannabees is the bullshit publishers pull with 3rd party exlusives. 1st party exclusives like Smash Brothers and God of War... fine... but locking out PC players from a 3rd party IP because you have more money than your competition is pretty shitty.
From what I remember microsoft made some weird clause that if you have a game exclusively on the new xbox, it has to work for pc as well.. but for windows only that is, see how that works because microsoft owns both.
Makes sense. I switched to PC because I grew tired of the console wars bullshit... and the manufactured obsolescence that required replacing peripherals. The only way to win is not to play. The fact that exclusivity rules for PC is 80% a created issue from unsavory business practices is less than endearing. It certainly does NOT motivate me to buy a console. If Nintendo put the Metroid franchise on PC (even after the game had hit the bargain bin), I would buy them in a heartbeat, but oh well... their loss. I can always wait to play it on an emulator long after a game's release.
I have kinda an odd view of exclusivity stuff in so far as I have both a high end gaming PC and a PS4 (PS5 when the next piece of FF7 comes out) mainly because of real life, not because of any one game. Now i will say I am a Sony fanboi and have never owned an XBox. This is because of the Final Fantasy franchise and it being the PS1's baby ever since the beginning of PS1s but that is a fun story for another day. The main reason I both play PC and console is because out in the fucking boonies sometimes a tree falls and no one hears it....but doesn't mean the fucker didn't ghost my power and internet for 3 weeks. So in times of hardship I am forced to choose between running a PS1/2/3/4 on a generator or my 1200 watt antec PSU. Sometimes i need to run a heater too
It's been 3 years (I think 2017 or 2018) since they announced Metroid prime 4. But I think it is moving slower than star citizen. At this rate MP 4 might be a launch title on the switch's successor. No gameplay videos. Or stills. Not even concept art. No news other than hiring people They do now have the writer who wrote Jedi Fallen Order.
And I just noticed in my previous response my phone somehow auto corrected "hiring" to "bothering". What the heck.
They announced it in 2017 and completely scrapped it and changed developers (from Bandai to Retro) in 2019.
