I loved HL1, just not really that motivated to play it again right now, maybe sometime when I get an itch I'll download

If it's the scientist saying "Get to the Lambda Team at the other side of the compound, the science team will help you" etc etc, that is about 1/4 of the way through the original.

My buddy has finished Black Mesa already and informed me that "A MAJOR PORTION OF THE ORIGINAL GAME WAS INTENTIONALLY LEFT OUT". I won't spoil it outright (see spoiler below if you simply must know), but you'll realize it's missing when you get there and cuts out a few hours of game play.

Currently, I just finished the rail lines (I think) and am getting ready to lauch the rocket.

THIS WILL TELL YOU WHICH PART OF HALF-LIFE 1 WAS LEFT OUT OF BLACK MESA, IT'S A LARGE AND NOTICEABLE PORTION FOR THOSE WHO PLAYED HL1. IF YOU DON'T WANT IT SPOILED, DON'T READ THE SPOILER.
DID YOU READ WHAT I SAID !?!?! THIS MIGHT RUIN YOUR GAMEPLAY, DON'T WHINE IF YOU CLICK AND DIDN'T WANT TO KNOW
Xen is left out of Black Mesa. According to my friend whose played through already, they plan on releasing the Xen portion as it's own, expanded game "within a reasonable timeframe". Given how Valve and this mod team have operated up until this point, spring 2020 might be a good estimate...

It's not a secret or a spoiler that they left out Xen, they said it in the release. They will release xen and multiplayer at a later date

I had not read anything about it prior to release, just knew it when it was coming.

Multiplayer? Isn't there already a Source deathmatch?

I guess they are doing anything they can to prevent an all out riot/assault on Valve HQ due to a lack of Half-Life 3... episodic gaming my ass

Well, there is but it lacks awesum weapons of HL1 and maps are different.

Also i heard about xen not going to be included in initial realease several months ago.

Definitely going to check this out, I've played through HL1 way too many times and this sounds like a fresh remix that changes things up without ruining your nostalgia.

It's... a mixed bag. It's free so not checking it out (for old fans especially) would be a mistake... BUT....

I'm about 1/2 - 2/3 through (just completed the science lab "questionable ethics" portion), and so far I have 2 main critiques:

    1. It's similar enough to the original that there are no new suprises
    2. It's different enough that you often notice things are missing

There are some old parts of the game that were legitimately hard and required a lot of work to muddle through and figure out (like the fire giant thing on the railway) but in Black Mesa, i literally just sprinted through and completed the section in a few minutes because I knew where to go and what to do.

These are really complaints, just my feelings as I go through the game. At worst, it's just another HL1 playthrough with better graphics and effects, as well as an incentive to play all the way through... And no one can complain about that!
