I've seen that before. Immersing the entire computer in oil and running it as to keep it cool. One of those WTF moments when you see it run the first time.
Had to go read a bit more about this stuff. At a smidge under $300/gal this stuff is better than mineral oil in not having issues with breaking down components, capacitors and such but when all is said and done it really doesn't go any further than water cooling. I've not seen anyone confirm about vapor pockets getting under chips and damaging things but I can see it also happening here. The fluid is apparently developed from a R123 replacement that 3M came up with. There was one mention of gelling problems, not something I would want to deal with. Basically it comes down to how big of an epeen you can claim you have. 3M™ Novec™ 7000 Engineered Fluid This property makes it useful as a heat transfer liquid for cooling reactors in the pharmaceutical and chemical processing industries. In the semiconductor industry, it is ideal for automated test equipment (ATE) and wafer processing equipment which requires extreme low temperatures. It has also been used as an autocascade refrigerant. Novec fluid 7000 has a very low global warming potential (GWP) and offers reduced greenhouse gas emissions when compared to PFCs - without sacrificing performance. Features and Benefits Non-flammable Low Global Warming Potential (GWP)
Jelling only happens wen a Containment inters the system like dust . Witch is why in us used in a closed system and then only on then condensation side . The under boil and chip popping is a installation problem and only happens after 12 to 24 howers of sustained use under max load . The 3M™ Novec™ 7000 Engineered Fluid goes for 150 US Dollars a galleon but that are cheaper variant from other companies. Not trying to start a E fite just throwing stuff out there
ya its cool to watch the video seen a better prototype using that same liquid, wish i could find the video, wasnt on youtube, some tech site as they had made a whole case for a computer with PCI cards in it as well, and then had the clear one for viewing how it worked, but used a pump to gather the boiled vapor and recirculate it to the bottom, was designed to be used in the desert but it was way too fkn expensive and flopped nothing beat watching the mineral oil immersion video for the first time and having your brain go OMFG thats not right
