Hey folks, Damon here with a special game for everyone.....Forum mafia, Skjaldborg edition!! (for those of you who remember, this is a "Take 2" ) Official signups are open. Basic info is below and will be updated periodically. Basic Mafia rundown. More detailed mafia run-down. How is Mafia played? -At the start of the game, everyone is PM'ed a 'role'. Only you and the Mod's know who you are, and generally speaking you don't want anyone else to know. -The game begins with a set number of 'bad' guys and a set number of 'good' guys, each with their own objectives. ---Generally, the 'townsfolk' want to live to the end of the game, while the 'mafia' want to kill everyone else. -From there, the game progresses through 'Day' and 'Night' scenes (48 RL hours and 24 RL hours, respectively) where players discuss, use their 'action powers' (which are unique to each 'role') and generally try to figure out who the bad people are. ---The game always starts on 'Day 1' ---During a 'Day' scene, players can vote on who to kill off, based on 'evidence' gained throughout the days' back and forth conversation (or vote to not kill, its the players' choice); conversation is free and open within the designated thread for the game. ---During a 'Night' scene, players can PM the mods any night actions they wish to perform (should they be able to do so); during this period, communications are limited (you're all supposed to be sleeping!) -The game continues in this fashion until one side is declared victorious. Basic Overall Mafia Rules No out of thread communication. Period. PMs, Steam, other threads. Nothing. You do not discuss this game with anyone outside of this thread. PMing a mod with questions is okay. Commenting to another player that this game is crap is not. No quoting mod communications. You cannot straight-up quote anything from a mod. You may paraphrase, but you cannot use exact words or say "the mod told me...". Example: "I investigated Spork and he was scum!" is okay. "This is my result PM: :quote: You go into Spork's room and dig through his things. Your findings clearly label him as scum! :quote: is not. Don't try to break the game. Things like "I'm vanilla town and my alignment is colored blue in my role PM", first of all, is bad form. Second, any decent GM will be expecting this and vary stuff so it may just get you killed. Other actions, such as external threats, etc., are not allowed as well. Scum purposely revealing other scum works the same way. Do not backseat mod. Saying "I think that was hammer" is different than "Guys that was hammer shut up :locks thread:". If you sign up, you're expected to play. If you cannot participate for a significant amount of time, let a moderator know. If you have to drop out, let a moderator know. We'll figure something out. GMs may decide to enforce minimum posting limits as well. Mafia can take up a lot of time in some games: plan accordingly. GameMods have final authority. Disobeying any rule is grounds for modkill in game and possible banishment from future games. If enough interest gets generated we'll figure out an official waitlist but we'll cross that bridge when we get there. NO EDITING YOUR POST. PERIOD. You do not edit your post for any reason, not even for typos. Editing is grounds for mod punishment. If you typo'd or missaid something, say it in a double post. NEVER EVER EVER EDIT YOUR POST. All mafia stuff stays in the mafia thread. This includes calling people out on inactivity within the thread while they're active elsewhere on the forums. People should not be afraid to log on due to a mafia game. You can call someone out for being inactive/lurking, but do it based on the thread alone, not the stuff they've done elsewhere. MAFIA ACTIVITY RULE. You must have at least 2 content-filled posts per day phase. It is up to the moderator to determine what is content-filled. First failure to do this will be a public warning. Second will be a modkill. If you are going to be suddenly busy, please let me know and I'll make exceptions while also letting others know as well. Remember, only sign up if you're confident you can put time into this. Game Mechanics Days last 48 hours, nights 24. All days/nights will end/start at the same time for simplicity and coherence. If a day ends prematurely, night phase will be shorter or longer to make sure it is still at the same time. All roles and alignments are assigned randomly. Closed game. All votes and actions need to be bolded and hashtagged to make them stand out. Keep them on a separate line too. Example: ##vote Spork While this game won't be crazy, I guarantee nothing on how basic the roles will be. Anything is fair game. Standard lynch mechanics: if any person reaches hammer (>=50% of current live players vote to lynch them) the day ends automatically and they are killed. If the day ends without a hammer, person with most votes is killed. Ties are resolved by random number generation to determine which player dies. Night actions are handled in PMs on this board. You must submit a night action, if you have one, via PM. Telling me on Steam doesn't count. Scum win if their numbers are equal to or greater than town (control hammer, essentially.) Town wins when their win condition(s) are met. Third party, if any, win when their win condition(s) are met. This is a role/rank based game. Players participating will appear in the storyline/RP as their unit character (including non-SoR players). Your current unit designation or rank will not determine alignment or role. Moderator Notice: I need someone who can be available and dedicated to seeing this little game through to the end (even and especially in my absence, for whatever reason). Experience is preferable, but not required. Questions, comments concerns are welcome and encouraged, especially in the signup phase (which is now)
I can volunteer to mod if you need help, just finished finals so I have a ton free time I'm not sure how we'll be able to play without being emotionally abused by the ponies, though
This is a Skjaldborg - Only playthrough. Last time was with ponies, this time the only ponies are the one's I bring to the party....and the one's found in Dihmlinks.
I missed out on the previous incarnations of this.. And have absolutely no idea how it's played. Can anyone enlighten a newb?
Basically, it works like this: -At the start of the game, everyone is PM'ed a 'role'. ---During a 'Night' scene, players can PM the mods any night actions they wish to perform (should they be able to do so); during this period, communications are limited (you're all supposed to be sleeping!) -The game continues in this fashion until one side is declared victorious. ...that's the jist of it. I'll add it to the front post as well!
Also I need a definitive "YES, I want to participate" from you all, not just a 'eh....maybe...' Stynnes, I'll PM you the details.
Thanks guys for the support! Make sure you tell other members about it, we're shooting for 20 participants!
Just post here saying you want to play! (which you have, so you're good!) Recruit your friends, we need more players!
