An employee at Arrowhead Games was walking past a toxic waste site on the way to work, their face buried in a copy of Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers. Walking in the other direction was an innocent basement dweller with a brand new copy of Diablo 3 (he had been banned again for using a cheat-trainer) clutched in his flagellating sausage-fingers. Fate intervened. A crack in the sidewalk tripped the Developer. Way too much sun on a December afternoon caused the Haxxor to squint even more than usual. Their paths collided and their treasures soared directly into a glowing puddle of ooze. What came out of the mess was an isometric two-stick shooter with RPG elements and a hilarious setting. A campaign map showing the contributions of every player connected to Steam. A plethora of weapon upgrades and special call-downs (including a motha-f'ing MECH). Unique enemies to each faction. And drop in Co-Op team play. "Helldivers™," whispered the stunned Developer. "I'll call it Helldivers™." "Don't be gorram newb, you myopic shitlord," lisped the script-kid. "You don't say "tee-em". With that, he picked up and dusted off his trilby-shaped fedora and began his shuffling march back to the Gamethtop, reciept in one hand and his body-pillow waifu, Nekotsumi, in the other. He grumbled over a shoulder, neck-folds billowing in the wind: "It already came out on Vita and PS4. What a cash grab. I bet it'll have micro-trans and shitty graphics. Not to mention it's just a shitty side-bet of Magicka. I bet it doesn't last a month." Cradling his newborn mutant, the Dev choked past the lump in his throat, "No. It's beautiful. And responsive. And replayable. And perfectly suited for the market now that PC gamers have embraced rogue-likes and gamepads." Tears of joy blurring his vision, he raises the game into the light. "It will succeed."
What I've seen it's very good coop game. Fun and challenging. Friendly fire makes things fittingly chaotic. Definitely considering getting it. EDIT: Welp, pre-purchase complete. That's my early Christmas present. FOR THE SUPER EARTH! Democracy shall crush the ignorant aliens!
origin story had me hyped, steam trailer had me laughing i'm all for picking this up once someone/anyone can confirm it's still excellent with KB/M. love mindless grinding horde games though, still fire up PoE and D3 when i've got some quick time to burn
I'll test that out now. Magicka was pretty rough without a controller, but it also had that crazy magic system. Edit: Based on the bindings, it looks like it should be pretty kb/m friendly. 2nd Edit: I didn't have any issues. The calldowns may be slightly easier with a controller, but it's definitely doable on the keyboard.
Magicka with guns and space bugs? I can get behind that. This reminds me of Alien Swarm... too bad that never took off. Hopefully this one does.
I do hate you guys for influencing me to buy another game. Oh and don't play with smokey, he abandoned me and varg while he crawled into the dropship. Cant trust bears.
Got left behind in a solo mission. Turns out there's a count-down once the shuttle lands. I was downed and emptying a mag into a pack of bugs when it started from 5 seconds. Rather cinematic as I reloaded and dumped more rounds into them as the shuttle flew away.
sounds like i found my happy birthday to me game for this year! the only real question left is whether or not to go deluxe? does the stuff in the packs unlock through normal play or are they only available via DLC?
You save about 10 euros/whatever if you go with Deluxe instead of buying DLC's as bundle afterwards. I'd recommend it. You could also cherry-pick some of the DLC packs that look good for you. You don't get the DLC stuff normally in the game, so I'd say the DLC's are worth the money depending how much you like the game. The basic stuff gets the job done still. DLC just adds some flavor and variety. I'm personally loving it. Leveled up to 5 while getting hang of the gameplay. I see many hours both soloing and in a group having fun and causing shenanigans. Definitely worth the praises it has gotten.
Best review I've seen Last mission, Stay alive till ship comes to pick us up P1: -calls a mechsuit- P2: -calls a mechsuit- P3: -calls a mechsuit- Tim: -calls in an unnecessary APC- -mechs land close to each other -Everyone's running to their Mech suits -APC lands on top of Mech suits -blowing up all 3 Mechs -Plus the people who were running towards it. 10/10
Solo play bear style: Three turrets and a flamethrower. Stay the hell away from my shuttle, xenos scum! Also, dropping onto an objective is fun and intense. Not recommended for higher difficulties, but great for low difficulty speed runs. Finished a capture mission in under 5 minutes, 1.5 of which was waiting for the shuttle.
