Hussars were pretty cool. They actually set up a democratic system of command were the average soldier voted on the best plan to use in battle.

Which probably helped them to be awesome. When the person who has to fight and potentially die gets a say in the battle plan, casualties tend to be lower.

Not necessarily. That person could be an utter moron. Or just extremely callous towards the possibility of injury or death.

And, yes, I realize you said "tend to be lower."

Hussars successes were mostly based on martial traditions of commonwealth and very good quality of equipment and as for chain of command 90% of the time soldiers just elected person supposed to command this mess, after that no one dared to question leaders command, well most of time at least, though the system crumbled around XVII/XVIII century mostly due to extreme conservatism verging on anarchy.

Would you stop bringing that up, Alaskan Viking? But still, if you read about mongolian military organisation.... They were good at it. And one of the first true meritocratic militaries as well.

Well how else was a band of angry nomads on ponies supposed to bring an entire continent (well, it was a portion of 2 continents, but you get my point) to its knees?

    ITS KNEES, I TELL YOU.

I also love the fact that they have the courtesy to tell you (with drums) when your army has fucked up and fallen into their trap just before they rip/shoot you to pieces.

Disclaimer: I cannot verify that the above was actually a thing they did.

Yeah I know, and I do agree that the Mongols were the greatest cavalrymen of history, the record of their expansion speaks for itself.

The elves and dwarves. I was surprised just as much as anyone else when they finally put their differences aside but wouldn't you know it the two of them have honored their agreement to the letter.
