    If by some miracle this message reaches you all, know that my IP has completely crapped out on me and updating the campaign has nearly ground to a halt because of it. If you guys want to start drops this week on time, it will require you all to round up the rest of the stragglers that haven't submitted refits. Once I get things working again on my end, I will be giving them a two day grace period to get their refits approved by me; this means using the previously mentioned template. Here is who we are waiting on (by Lance):

    Alpha
    -Val (I think she has it, but I don't)

    -Stynnes (are you just waiting till 3048 for the Axman? do you not want to do anything with your Hatchetman?)
    -Driver Monkey (he submitted one, but I highly recommend he reconsider the design... check Gamma thread)

    Omega is ready! (Omega cannot use refits)

    As far as I can tell, ALL Lances except for Alpha and Beta need to update their financials. This is VERY important so we know exactly how much credit your Lances have and how much the entire unit should save in reserve. Without those financials, we are dead in the water. I can't look it up to post it (again, bad connection), but please follow Alpha Lances #3 report as an example. Can someone who has access to the admin folder on dropbox please post it?

    I will try to get everything up to da## a# ###n ## # ###############......

    Okay, I'm sorry that I'm making people wait on me. But I was under the impression that since I hadn't played a game yet, I didn't have to do any refits? If that is not the case I need someone to walk me through what I need to do.

    Yeah I havent been on top of Megamek lately my apologies. I will try and send Hak a PM and see what he wants done. If someone who has ran through the refit stuff already can walk me through it so that it all gets done right 1st time so wont hold anyone up any more than neccessary. Any evening is fine just tell me a time that isnt too late night and I will be there.

    I will be doing a major reorganizing of the unit. Here is the preliminary report:


    Mech forces organization will (for now) remain relatively unchanged.

    Omega Lance will now become Omega Squadron (6 fighters).
    -NOTE: This was done to give some breathing room for battle losses and still allow Aerospace players to redeploy if they get shot down once or maybe twice (but not three times!) during a campaign.

    Phi Lance will now be Alpha Lance-3rd Company of the currently unnamed vehicle battalion:

    Vehicle Battalion (36 vehicles: 12 Heavy + 24 Light)
    -1st Company: Command and Support (Communications, Engineering, Artillery, Heavy Transport, Spotter/Recon, etc.)
    -2nd Company: Heavy Cavalry (Main Battle Tank Company)
    -3rd Company: VTOL Close Air Support (Gunship, Recon, Air Transport)
    -NOTE: Our conventional vehicle forces was also expanded to allow for some battle losses without leaving a player without a unit to command.

    Dropship Composition:
    Seeker - "Vanguard" Class = Mech & Aerospace Medium Transport
    Condor - "A1" Class = Vehicle Medium Transport
    ????? = Mech Light Transport

    Jumpship:
    Invader (x3 Dropship capacity)

    It seems a lot of you tankers favor LRM support, but it may be a good idea if some of you took a more direct fire approach. Ideally, I would like all the tankers to deploy together, not piecemeal. Since we have enough tankers, i would like to see some more "conventional" teams being deployed for missions. Also, since you treadheads now have dedicated vehicle transport, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that you may be deployed completely separate from our mech forces. This could be particularly true next time we have a mission that takes place somewhere conventional vehicles simply will not function (a major drawback over mechs). While the mechs and aerospace are battling in some god-forsaken environment, we could send you off on a separate assignment to environments that are more vehicle friendly. Trust me... you will thank me later.

    ... and yes, while we could configure our vehicles with sealed hulls, having to reconfigure them every time we have to face a vacume is a huge hassle. It is possible that once we have the funds we could have a company on standby built for extreme environments, but that will have to come later down the road.

    Well, we need some hovercraft then. In my experience any vehicle moving slower than 7/11 has no business being in a direct fire role. Mainly because every hit a vehicle takes has a better than 1 in 4 chance of doing motive system damage. That's the primary reason I went for LRM support with my Goblin. :)
     
  11. Might I recommend the Saladin? Fast hover with a big gun ;)

    For direct fire I'm also a fan of the Partisan. If you're in a defensive position the Schrek is nice, but lacks in the mobility department.

    We have game options turned on that make tanks quite a bit tougher than vanilla. Basically, the rate of critical hits for vehicles has been significantly toned down. You will find that tanks can take quite a bit more punishment than before. The biggest weakness of tanks that remains is their limited mobility compared to battlemechs. :)

    @Skwi: the Partisan and Shrek are nice for defensive/garrison roles but we need tanks with better mobility; 64 kph minimum top speed.

    As for the Saladin, i really want to like a fast glass cannon, but the fact that it has to get so close makes me nervous to use it. If you are facing an elite pilot, no amount of speed at that range will save you if he gets you in his crosshairs. A gauss rifle equipped Saladin, however.... now you are talking!

    @Charger: why have a hetzer when you can have this: :)

    That said, some of you have been half-assing your lance financials. It is not my job to be everyone's accountant. If you want upgrades done, you need to show me in writing exactly how much credit your lance has and how much mechanic work time your lance has. I am setting a deadline for 00:00 Friday (EST). What I am asking is really not hard people. See for yourself:

    Alpha Lance Finances:

    Starting Funds = 16 million (4mill/pilot)

    If you need help, find an Admin on TS and ASK for help. If you are a Lance Leader, this is an essential part of your job. If you hate math, you need to appoint someone from your lance who is willing to do it (such is the case for Beta). Refits requests should be done using the format listed here:

    I've talked to Magnus and since the vehicle battalion has its own transport, drop weights are being retooled. The Main Battle Tank Company is looking for tanks in the 40-80ish ton range that can move at least 4/6 and have some form of primary weapon (PPC, AC10, Guass Rifle; something we can combine fire with). Magnus's Patton refits fall along those lines.

    What Charger said. Also, repeating what I said earlier:

    Even with 36 tank slots available now, your options are still a bit limited. If you want to pilot a hover tank, you will fit best in 1st Company's Recon Lance (preferably fitted with TAG). The rest of 1st Company is devoted to logistical support. 2nd Company should be all tracked MBTs; they are expected to be the battalion's primary firepower. 3rd Company will be all VTOLs (two combat lances and one VTOL transport lance).

    Better yet, if you want speed and firepower, taking a VTOL *might* be your better option over a hover tank. We have more room to carry those than hover tanks.
