Okay bitches. We got a good scrounge off and reconned to the south. Goretti #1 appears to be in retreat and is at half strength. Goretti #4 is hard charging right towards where we're at now.

Gamma is pulling back to H5 to form a three way. With Alpha needing a breather from Goretti #2, I'm thinking Delta holds firm in the hex we're in currently. Find a defensive spot and wait for #4 and/or #2 to come in on us, providing cover for our more damaged units.

Alpha and Gamma are done moving. Delta is holding for now. Beta, time to make a move.

Right, we have been discussing it internally and have decided to try to intercept #2 by moving into their hex H6 so they cant double-team delta or alpha.

(however we are not certain what the rules say regarding strategic movement: If we move into H6 can they move out as they are moving after us or are they locked? In that case we'd rather try to hold against #2/4 with delta)

    OpFor moves AFTER we do.

Dumb question, is it always like that or do we get to win strategic initiative some times? I can't remember

Right, but if we already are in their square can they still move? That wasn't obvious to us, but from your answer I assume yes.

By moving into H6, you are "contesting the Zone". OpFor has the choice of staying in H6 to fight you or may retreat to any neutral/friendly zone. Both Players AND OpFor cannot attack another zone FROM a contested zone. In other words, if you attack H6, you force them to fight only you.

On a related note, if your lance gains the Astech bonus "Efficient", you get to move twice. This second move can be done at any time until the end of the turn. However, it does NOT allow you to move THROUGH an enemy controlled zone. Once a zone becomes "contested", you have to fight. You can only move again by retreating (i choose where you retreat) or by taking control of the zone. Retreating also costs you your movement (or half of it if you have "efficient").

    =====

Skwi is right: OpFor moves after the players. ALWAYS. the reason for this is that I need some leeway to set up missions for each of you. Allowing OpFor to move after allows me to adjust the battlefield appropriately to player's decisions. If players were allowed to move before OpFor, I wouldn't have any oversight in ensuring a balanced experience for all players. (remember that you can prevent OpFor from moving by attacking first). This also means that unless OpFor has no other viable targets*, I WON'T have them double up on a single player lance. I'm not that cruel.

*do not test my limits on this: if you decide to charge in the middle of three forces with no backup, expect no mercy.

you are right, but remember that attacking first robs an enemy of their movement. that is significant. you also still get to dictate where you fight. that is also very important.

keep in mind I haven't completely nailed down the rules for map movement; things have been moving so fast i haven't had time to get them all down on paper. I will be finalizing that today as well as the planetary conditions table.

We can still choose the terrain we want to fight in, to an extent. Moving first lets us set the battleground to our liking.

I think we just need more testing. It is all so much theory right now

agreed. like i said; still in the process of nailing everything down. i'm happy to adjust as needed. the choice to have OpFor move after players was strictly for reasons to make things easier for me to manage.

Alright, if I read that correct our initial assessment was correct. Ie we move there and attack them, they move after us but only have the choice to retreat to a non-contested zone of fight us.

    correct.

Delta, I know you guys said you were holding, but you still have the option of moving up to 2 zones. can i get confirmation you are staying in I5, or would you still like to move?
