The fact that we remained on the same topic for a whole page derailed the derailment.

I think I just read the most awesome way to describe the immensity of something. Curiosity of Iain M. Banks, and the Culture novels.

I would argue that good and evil depend on your values and goals.
Regardless of ethical system, they always depend on values. You cannot make value evaluation without value.

Goals are just a part of my personal ethic, the consequence & purpose system in which I think that both intention and results matter.
Explained: if you intend to do bad but the results end up being good, then you will be evil even though there will be satisfaction that this time you failed. But at least there can be cases where it could be argued that in some way you yourself could have thwarted your own evil plans.
If you try to do good but actually do bad, then you can still be bad depending on the level of neglect towards finer details, whether you actually had to do something or tried to get other people to join in your flawed goals and if it could be argued that your good intentions are just a cover up story.

So, say a politician says he wants to achieve good but causes more bad than good, it depends. If it's 'force majeure' and totally unpredictable that ruins his plans, then he's still good. If he continually tries to get other people to join him despite a track record of actual results being bad, then he eventually ends up as being evil because he's obviously either masking his evil intentions or alternatively he's a dangerous fool which is just as evil from terms of consequences.

For the record I don't ideally think that 'evil' should be purged or punished as such. I think in ideal situations we should merely limit the ability of evil individuals to apply their evil. It's quite common that 'evil' in a person is limited to certain activities, such a person can still be very gifted and valuable in other ways and he could be important to many people. People with proven 'good' record should be promoted with more power. Whether or not this is seen as rewarding good behavior and limiting bad behavior, it's of no consequence since it is pointless to try to apply some misguided sense of "modesty" and "selfless virtue" to such real world topics. Selflessness and such may be popular in some religions' mythology but they're some of the worst misguided concept memes in human history since they go in every way against how humans function and essentially lead to a point where good people are judged for 'not being entirely selfless' while evil is more tolerated as behaving according to expectations.

In short, it is not evil to try to get rich and to gain power to do good if you actually do good when you gain power and if you don't do evil acts in order to gain power. Money is, after all, essentially power potential that can be applied to cause action. In West we have this thing where a good doer is judged because he has at some point benefited himself, say, you set up a hospital to treat poor people, you do good and spread awareness and improve people's lives. Then you get judged because you also made some money in the process. It's not about whether someone manages to also personally profit - it's more complex than that, the point being the difference between sheer evil practices and practices that benefit everyone.

We can see things like fighting against climate change awareness as being pure evil. There are business opportunities in technology alternatives to carbon based economy. Eventually it makes no difference from business perspective, the people owning the carbon economy could similarly own alternative technology. However, to maximize profits by choosing to cause massive environmental damage and spending money to create controversy, what is it if it ain't evil? That money could be spent to lead the transition.

Or think of tobacco industry. It kills and maims people for profit. I really don't care if your children's hospital makes profit as well, as long as the patients are taken care of. It cannot be compared to tobacco factory that also makes profit based simply on profit.

Things like use of lead in fuels and elsewhere, it was a slight increase in profits that resulted from use of lead but as we can all see profit can be made even without lead, economies did not crash. Yet large sums of money was spent to fight the awareness that lead is poisonous to humans.

That there is the difference. There is nothing wrong with making profit while helping other people, making them healthier, happier, feeding them and so. Intentionally causing damage to people is evil, whether it produces profit or not. It is also evil even if it's not intentional if the people doing it "should have known" it to be bad. That they personally keep fighting scientific evidence on their own account does not mean that they are not evil, on the contrary, they're even more evil because of it.

"Illu shared von Richthofen's view: the task of a fighter pilot is to take his guns to an advantageous position in relation to the enemy and shoot him down. For Illu a fighter plane was a flying gun platform, nothing else."

Ilmari Juutilainen scored more than 94 victories in two wars, flying Fokker D.XXIs, Brewster B-239s and Messerschmitt Me-109Gs.

I think he's fit to make such a statement.

So I have a computer application class that is required for my degree and there are four chapters just for word. Now the thing I don't get, they have you do some typos fixing. The typo the program decided to go with was to turn Mango Facial into Mangoo facial and we're supposed to fix it. Yeah okay I'll give them one instance of there lapse of mental judgement here with going with that typo. No, it continues to appear all the time throughout the four Chapters that cover word. How the fuck does Mangoo Facial even get passed as something that would be okay for a college course program. I will try to post a picture when I can.
