Buccaneer Class Aerodyne Dropship - The "Mischief Maker"

Class Intel:
The Buccaneer has become one of the most popular cargo haulers ever produced. Initially designed in the early 2700s as a military craft, the Buccaneer failed to win a Star League contract for a ’Mech transport. The vessel’s designers then made a few modifications to the Buccaneer and marketed it as a merchant vessel. Three large cargo holds provide the Buccaneer's cargo space. Two 1,000-ton holds are located on either side of the fuselage, and the third hold, situated above the transit drive, accommodates 300 tons. The two main bays can be modified to carry up to 36 light vehicles.

The standard 12-man crew, more than adequate for the vessel, occupy an area directly forward of the cargo section, with each crew member in a spacious single-occupancy room. The Buccaneer also has excellent recreation and mess facilities, which make a tour on a Buccaneer one of the most sought-after assignments in any Inner Sphere fleet. The Buccaneer’s command deck is situated forward of the crew quarters. This deck is fairly cramped and is usually used only for flight and weapon controls. Communications are handled from a separate cabin directly aft of the bridge. At present, no company has launched an upgraded version of the Buccaneer or announced plans to do so.

Model Intel:
The 'Mischief Maker' is a heavily customized combat version of the venerable Buccaneer civilian craft. Its true origins are shrouded in mystery but it is clear that the designers had something sinister in mind when they chose this well known cargo ship. Nearly the perfect infiltrator, although appearing on the surface to be unremarkable, the craft has been improved in a number of terrifying ways. Packed with enough weaponry to give even some assault ships a run for their money, enemies who (often) mistake the ship for a civilian hauler are in for a very rude awakening. A platoon of marines are on hand to assist in capturing any vessel that gets too close. As if this wasn't enough, the Mischief Maker can also carry two fighters. Against their combined firepower, almost anything smaller than an Overlord doesn't stand a chance. Good luck to anyone trying to catch it ,though; with a massive engine upgrade, the ship is twice as fast as almost any other ship used in the Inner Sphere. Anything this ship can't kill, it simply outruns... easily.

Once on the ground, the ship only has more destruction to dish out; it easily carries a mech lance and a supporting vehicle demi-company. Perhaps most suprisingly of all, thanks to the Buccaneer's excellent flight characteristics, it is not uncommon for the ship to accompany the fighters for air support. While this does burn an excessive amount of fuel and put the dropship in more danger, it is far more suited to the role of gunship than most of its kind.

Amazingly enough, all these improvements have been made with almost no sacrfice to the Buccaneer's famously roomy living areas and facilities, which are essential for morale during long missions. With enough cargo space, supplies, and fuel to go almost anywhere, as its name implies, this is the perfect raider.

Deployment:
This is an incredibly rare ship. Being a custom one-off design, there is currently only one known to exist. This is probably a good thing, because if this strike dropship became a common sight, there would be no end in the havoc it would cause for civilian Buccaneer traffic. Unfortunately, all information regarding its creator, its crew, and its current whereabouts are unknown. It was last sighted on the Lyran-Greater Valkyrate border, but details are quite limited; the ship blends easily into civilian traffic and appears to change markings and registry numbers constantly. There have also been a surprising lack of witnesses; the ship seems to only attack in isolated areas and of those unlucky enough to be attacked, very few have survived the encounter. It is also still unclear if the captain is openly working with pirates or not as the ship seems to not discriminate between periphery and spheroid targets. It is possible its crew may simply be a freelance operation working for the highest bidder.

Schematics:
The below data only shows the capabilities of this ship prior to the end of the 4th Succession War. With the recent advancements in technology over the past decade, we must assume the worst; the Mischief Maker has likely already been equipped with far more potent Star League technology. Approach with extreme caution.

Already found a major bug involving the data\mechfiles\customs folder. Short version: DON'T USE IT. All custom refits will be placed in the "submitted" folder from now on. Only drawback is that this will cause us some minor campaign save compatibility issues, but it is a far better solution than trying to use the built-in customs folder. Just make sure you are up to date with the latest Magnus-Pack.
