Space Station 13. This is a post to remind myself to check it out when I get back home, and maybe get it added to our monthly game night line up. Even if I never make it to game nights, because the creatures that control the Temporal Matrix hate me.
giving it a read, hit me up if you want to try it out. (edit) quick over view, it's not something people can just jump into, it takes some knowledge of the game mechanics to be able to play right... would be a great once a week type of thing, but "new" players will have a hard time, unless somebody is really willing to show them what to do.
That's exactly why I think it would be delightful to just jump into it with some other Borgs. Especially maybe on a drunken video streaming night so we can record our first attempts to m̶u̶r̶d̶e̶r̶ ̶e̶a̶c̶h̶ o̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ p̶l̶u̶n̶g̶e̶ ̶o̶u̶r̶s̶e̶l̶v̶e̶s̶ ̶i̶n̶t̶o̶ ̶m̶a̶d̶n̶e̶s̶s̶ learn how to play together. Though we would definitely need someone to figure out how to direct it so we can actually reach that point.
I am doing just that, I read things like how to admin and crap, just so I know how not to break the rules .. it sounds tons of fun, I might not be able to do the technical stuff of starting a server, but if I have help with that I can learn the commands and stuff to leading it. I like to DM things,
reading pages at https://tgstation13.org/wiki/Main_Page is integral to learning the game, there is so much to do!... frickin role playing games...
Knew some people that were really, really enjoying Space Station 13. Read some of the stuff and it sounded hilarious, at least from the plot and story side. Definitely not something for everyone but I recommend anyone with interest to at least try it out. If it works out it can be a ton of fun.
so far, it's hard to get started, I've tried 3 times, and each time i've tried either nobody decides to talk to me, or those that do, just call me a noob and tell me to rtfm, which doesn't help, since i have read them. You'd think people are interested in trying to get more players playing, but when you have 50 people all screaming at each other, nobody cares about the single new player. What I think we need to do is get a server up and running, and just play the different classes, to see what each does. Then work in some of the "disasters"
Ouch. Open hostility to beginners in a game that is best described as incredibly difficult to learn is a great combination that ensures that there won't be too many of those annoying new people coming in all excited and trying to play with them. Which is why it would be that much better with borgians.
We should set up some time to do some test servers for a few of us so we can get some DMs up to snuff and also have some ringers for some Borg games.
I downloaded BYOND, I'm going to read up on some of this now with the link provided by fluffypinkbunny.
