Hey peeps, I am just curious how many people are interested in that Starfinder thing coming out in about 2 weeks. I have a crap ton of work to do, but I have some thoughts in mind that could use a few suc... er testers. Anyone?
I'd be MORE than interested to participate in a starfinder campaign. On that note, I was also mulling around running a short, simple module on the off weeks you're busy with conventions and such once I complete my national exam coming up here in a bit. Have any suggestions?
It depends a bit on your goal. If you just want to play and have a blast (no PFS credit) then you have more options. I would find an Adventure Path that fits your style and run with it. Either that or a lengthy module. Currently, between all the groupages, I am running the following: Hell's Rebels AP (freedom fighters against an oppressive regime) Curse of the Crimson Throne AP (saving the country from a dark fate) Mummy's Mask AP (go Egypt) Dragon's Demand module (eventually fight a dragon, right now dealing with pesky kobolds) Ones I have been very interested in: Reign of Winter (witches vs Baba Yaga, in the frozen north) Hell's Vengeance (bad guys supporting the oppressive regime) Skull and Shackles (everything is better with pirates) Starfinder, of course, will launch with minimal stuff already done. They will have the first of an AP and 3 scenarios at launch. My RL obligations will tie up most of those. At the moment, I am writing 5 Starfinder books: an 80+ page empires in the area summary, a 60 page adventure, a 30 page group of ships with floorplans, and a pair of 20 page NPC compilations. I have to create about 50 ships, 10-15 floor plans, 20 monsters, 10 races, 20 NPCs, 6 maps, and most of the adventure (ran a playtest, but need to actually work out all the details). I am thinking of adding a 6th book to that mess, one dealing with Mecha. I don't yet know how smooth that will work though.
As I understand it, Paizo is wanting to implement mecha themselves at some point. That one may take care of itself.
I am not seeing anything in the near future on the release schedule. That doesn't mean much, however.
One other great way to get feet wet easily is the Quest series. They are each a collection of six 1-hour adventures. I have played or GMed or both Phantom Phenomena and Silverhex Chronicles (various parts of each).
Alright, back to Starfinder. The book comes out on the 17th. I am booked on the 18th, 19th, and 20th. We have Pathfinder on the 25th. I am booked on the 26th and 27th. So, aside from Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. What day would you guys like to chat?
For those with any interest in the organized play, the Guild Guide for Starfinder hit today. I have not seen the core rulebook in finished form or any of the scenarios or the AP yet.
I'm liking what I see so far. There's a lot of room for extra flavor text on armor, weapons, and so on. Practically every piece of equipment you carry can either be equipped with hot-swappable magic fusions or tech upgrades. Classes can be played radically differently depending on your character's theme (like a combination of traits and backstory from Pathfinder). From a quick look-see I like the base here. There's good room for expansion down the line. Already theory crafting. Looking at a first character being a mechanic or technomancer. Mechanics can be played as either cyborg soldiers or more like riggers from shadowrun. Technomancers are similar to Tech-Priests from W40k (without the religion requirement)
Core rulebook is available as PDF now, for $9.99. Also, the first Adventure Path is available, but I don't know if I can fit it in the budget quite yet.
Read the crafting rules. Making your own gear on the fly is absolutely doable now, and there are real reasons to do so. It's not any cheaper, but custom items are more durable than store bought ones.
Ran a few parts of the Quest last night. I am GMing the first scenario tonight. I also bought the Adventure Path. This is looking really good.
When are we looking get together next week to discuss? I would suggest Tuesday around 8 or 9 EST, to avoid the mwo meetup. What do you guys think?
