War Thunder is free, but it has its limitations and aggravations. A great alternative is the IL-2 Sturmovik franchise which has REAL campaign and Co-op modes available without the F2P annoyances. In the past, its hefty pricetag kept it away from serious consideration for most of us. But its currently on sale for less than $8! The game is being actively expanded upon with new free and premium content added regularly. Anyone else interested in joining me? Expanding beyond the base game, there are three additional dynamic campaign modules plus an assortment of DLC planes for purchase. I recommend starting with the campaigns: Battle of Moscow: early-war Eastern Front Battle of Kuban: mid-war Eastern Front Battle of Bodenplatte: late-war Western Front A couple things worth noting: The main era campaigns allow your character's career progress to transfer between campaigns (starting with Moscow in 1941). The plane roster is shorter than previous games, but offers a lot more upgrades and modifications for each plane. Battle of Normandy is currently being worked on and will work as a prelude to Bodenplatte. You only need the base game for multiplayer, any additional planes unlocked can be used in multiplayer as well. There is also two additional linear campaigns: Blazing Steppes Fortress of the Volga
