Ammendments suggested by user GenTask from the old Battletech forums:
For my own part, it's worth pointing out the "Jayhawker" is a completely fictional design. I guess someone was a huge Bushwhacker fan and just could not let it be excluded. Also, the "Linesman" is apocryphal.

    Still, the effort is commendable.

Who knows how early they were working on the bushwacker. They just could not get it to work till they got a Vulture. Whenever I read the fluff on the bushwacker it sounds like they were working on it and put it aside as failed project at least 10 years prior to the clans coming. They could have been working on it pre helm memory core.

I know about the Bushwhacker's history, but they are taking it a step too far to be considered close to canon. The Bushwhacker had no "Jayhawker" designation. Furthermore, the Bushwhacker was a failed design that never saw production or any measure of combat deployment until after the Clan Invasion. Like I said originally, the "Jayhawker" is the product of fan fiction and should not be confused for canon.

Also, the Hatchetman has much more right to be included than the Bushwhacker.

Yep. As much as I like the bushwacker I don't think a super early experimental flawed design should be in. If this were taking place in 3045 it'd be more forgivable.

Didnt the Bushwacker only work when the helm memory core tech was far more available for use?

No, the mech had too many issues. The Helm core helped some designs, but the Bushwhacker was not one of them. They didn't have a breakthrough with the design until they started capturing and reverse-engineering Clan designs.

Ahh, I knew it had to do with lack of viable tech either way.

All that being said, the "Jayhawker" does look to be a "legal" design in terms of game mechanics. The 220 rated engine would give it the same speed profile as a Hunchback. A bit silly that it's not explained in the lore why they didn't just give it the smaller engine and call it a day.
