Is anyone else as excited as I am for this game to come out? For those of you who have no idea what it is, The Banner Saga is an upcoming turn-based tactical strategy RPG, which features amazing hand-drawn and rotoscoped animations...oh, and VIKINGS. I mean, just look at this: So yeah, go check the website, and maybe read some cool fluff in What is Told.
Sooo. I Kickstarted Banner Saga at the guild level. I get to submit artwork that shows up in game as a faction you can play. but I totally suck at photoshop etc. Help me SoR artists! lets get an awesome graphic created that I can submit for us All to use. Here is the current information on how the art needs to be created. If it changes, I will update the link. We have a few months before the Art is due so no rush on this yet http://stoicstudio.com/uploaded/crest_template_final.jpg
I considered going for the guild level, but since something like 3500 people were already at that level, I was pretty sure I would be able to find a guild crest I liked from within that group.
How did I not know about this game? It seems like it has the potential to become a great game. Definitely going to be keeping my eye on it.
Looks like the multiplayer only version is released now. http://store.steampowered.com/app/219340/ EDIT: Laggy as fuck at the moment, but it's quite fun.
I downloaded the version off Steam but haven't played it yet. Hoping to get a chance to give it a look sometime this week.
00dlez and I had been playing it for a while, its a fun diversion but I'm mostly looking forward to the main story line portion of the game
I really need to spend more time checking out the other games section of our forum. I have learned about so many cool things that I am interested in playing through SoR forums. Are there options to play this cooperatively? The system specs are low enough that I might even be able to get my brother to play.
Unfortunately no. At least not yet, as it is a feature I have seen many people requesting on Stoic's forums. I will say, as much as I like Factions, there's not really enough there at the moment to hold my attention for long. So far I've just been playing a few games a week to pass the time. Definitely still super excited about single player though.
So now that it's out and I've had a chance to finish it, here are my thoughts: The game is amazing. Like holy shit, seriously awesome. With that said, I have a few minor complaints. The interface could use some improving. For example, if you click to promote a character, the only way to cancel the promotion is to exit out of the character screen. Also, if a character has been promoted enough to have had their ability leveled up, the only time in combat you can see what the different ranks of the ability do is if you click on the ability—but if you then target an enemy with the ability, it now only shows what rank 1 of the ability does, so you have to back out of the attack to see if you want to spend the willpower or not. Another small complaint: the morale system is esoteric and punishing. With Rook's group I tried to always pick options in events which sounded like they would improve morale and spent so much time resting that I ran out of food well before reaching Boersgard, and I was basically never over normal morale (and spent the vast majority of the time at low morale). A quick tip in terms of supplies: anytime a market sells supplies 4 or more for 1 renown, buy as much as you can. It will definitely make the late game much easier. One final complaint: I lost the final battle once (and almost a second time) because it was not explained at all that I needed to use a new ability I did not previously have in order to win. And the ability replaced the character's normal ability, so they still had just one purple icon on their action bar so I didn't even realize it was there until I went looking for it because nothing else I had tried was working. But again, these are relatively minor quibbles. The game is incredible (as is the soundtrack!), and I absolutely cannot wait for the next part. Also, if anyone ever wants to play some Factions (which should be getting co-op at some point in the future!), let me know. In fact, it would be cool I think to do a Skjaldborg tournament, since Factions lets you play against specific people (unlike some other game...).
Forgot all about this, haven't been playing much of it since beta. Always enjoyed it as a nice short break from whatever I was doing.
So... not to brag or anything, but my office did the QA for this game. Unfortunately, I wasn't one of the testers on it, but I do talk to them regularly.
