So, I was doing some looking around and apparently, the minimum spec GPU for MWO is the GeForce 8800. The 6570 underperforms it by about half. Guys in #MWOF pointed me toward this instead: http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GeFo...8&qid=1339894983&sr=1-10&keywords=geforce gtx

Expensive.

 

$120 at Amazon, so $50 over what I was already paying. Not too bad, considering the performance boost, I think.

 

I could! After shipping, that saves me about $10 over amazon.

Also of note: I've traded the $70 500GB WD HDD I was going to get for a $70 120GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD.

Edit: the father's day coupon code (FB1MTHANKS5) was working when I got the mobo/SSD, but did not work for just the video card. Both of which I tried to buy this morning.

 

Given the amount of times I've swapped parts in my cart, I'm getting this feeling that I'm going to get everything together and then realize I've forgotten something big... like the CPU or maybe RAM.

Double Edit: ...or something completely minor but totally necessary, like an HDMI cable.

 

Not a bad looking build. Did you check to verify that the 500w PSU is enough to support that build? Use this here to verify that you'll be ok. Also, do you have an additional HDD that will be used for storage and/or additional programs or are you intending to use the SSD for all your hard drive needs?

 

I had not checked, but after using that handy tool, it seems like I'll be covered fairly well. I have a spare 1TB drive of questionable integrity that I was planning on stuffing in there. Failing that, I've got a couple other externals that can harvested.

 

I had made sure 500w was enough when I started to suggest parts for her. She's gonna have a meaner build than mine. For now. The Gamma case I recommended to her is a direct competitor Of my Rosewill Challenger.

 

And excellent recommendations they were. Had it not been for you, sir, I would probably still be thinking of playing MWO on my 3yo MacBook Pro.

 

Beats my comp by having 4 more gigs of ram, a slightly better GPU, and an SSD... only thing I have an advantage is on the AMD Athlon Phenom X4 3.2 gig processor
