I keep seeing videos I want to edit, or situations where I see the potential for a perfect response with a clip of a video, but I knows not where I should got to get a resource for being able to do this. Anyone have any good suggests for free (or really cheap) software for this?

I use an older copy of Adobe Premier for my editing. It's pretty pricey, but it works like a champ. I presume you could find a copy through illegitimate sources free of charge.

Ah, I'm not terribly inclined to go through illegitimate routes, just because it's something I'm not very knowledgeable about seeking out, nor trusting enough to actually download anything from such places.

I use KMPlayer with GIMP to make gifs from videos.

How does one upload HD video to youtube?

All my quality videos get converted or cropped or some shit and they look ugly. Using Fraps to record them, it's roughly the same quality whether I use original or pack it to mp4, doesn't seem to matter, it's always shit.

how long has it been since you uploaded? It takes a while for it all to get processed. Depending on the length of the video 1080 takes an hour or so, 720 about half that, etc...

also, is the fraps quality ok, or just youtube?

The original video is set as the same as screen resolution, however when I upload it youtube then processes it a while and then the resolution has been reduced and it's a damn sloppy job and looks horrible.

Yea, it takes a decent while to upload but I suppose if the format was correct then it wouldn't even need to be processed. Don't know. I tried to google it but all I find is 7 year old minecraft players who "explain how to" but then the whole thing has nothing to do with actually uploading 720 or 1080. Also found a list about what the youtube prefers for settings, just I couldn't even find those settings on the software I tried (pazera, xvideo, videodub..).

I usually just suck at online things. Also it seemed like no one else in the world was having this issue.

ok so from what I could gather Youtube limits bitrates on videos when it compresses them for streaming, so if you have a high bitrate video, like video gameplay footage, you'll get a lot of compression artifacts. I couldn't really find good solution that didn't involve encoding videos yourself and other things beyond my video editing knowledge.

The best I can suggest is make sure the HD video is the same resolution as youtube format and upload the largest uncompressed, highest quality, video file you have.

Thanks, I'll just try to make the originals all in 1080 and just hope for the best. Just thinking enviously of the big boys and their full 1080 videos on youtube where there's zero corruption of quality.

I run a profitable youtube channel. To upload in 1080p you simply have to have a video of that resolution and hit upload. When it first uploads it will only have the 240 or 360 format. You need to wait at the upload screen for a while before it will render the full quality videos. DO NOT close the upload page until your video has rendered to the full resolution. You can check this by opening the video in another tab and checking.
EDIT: Just because it says it is done uploading doesn't mean it is done. Keep waiting.

Let me know what you end up using as video editing software. I've been using Windows Movie Maker, and have been bumping up against it's limitations. Here's my first attempt at overlaying music with some text.
