If it's of interest, check this out. Testing completed, the majority of cones work - tomorrow they get mounted in a wheely bin :)

    It's been tomorrow already!

Stupid Australian time scales, you're in the west country now: "tomorrow" means "at some point in the vague future, probably once the scrumpy wears off"

That's really just half the speakers we're using lying on the side of the wheely bin. The final product will be far more spread out, with some of the speakers on the front... but imagine that number of cones times 2 :)

Yo Chopper, it gets nearer completion :)

Not quite finished a week ago though :p

Right. These are the final photos that will mean anything, unless I video it in action :)

I can honestly say I have never seen anything like it. :D

I like the haphazardness of it all :D

I had a friend who fit 4 10inches in his mini van, but this is something else!

Getting settled in Thailand now, just need to get a job and go to some parties. Not sure if I'm going to buy a gaming laptop or play with surrounded by school kids at the gaming cafes (which look a damn site better than UK gaming cafes).

But anyway: It's getting some love back in England, hope it survives the summer:

So.. with all that equipment in there, and no correct reverb from the box.. how's the acoustics of it?

Good apparently. It has so many different sized/specced cones that it sounds good by brute force. I only heard it before it was finished, and it was good, apparently he changed the wiring and now it's awesome.

So, overwhelm the shitty acoustics with power. I like.

It's all pretty low end equipment (or high end that sat outside for ages or paired with random shit), could have fucked around with building out of wood, adhering to prime numbers for sizes, using baffling and internal structures to better shape the sound... but the amount of effort that would have been required would not have been worth it. These are a mismatched grabbag of recycled cones and crossovers, decided whacking it all in would be best cost:benefit ratio for effort. Might build some compartmentalisation into it in the future, but meh. The other thing is that building stuff properly uses a lot more space, this is relatively compact.

    So yeah, brute force :)
