Today we start off E3 2017 with the EA press conference. Tailing up the end of the conference behind all the sports and racing games are three notable prospects for 2018. First we haves Starwars Battlefront II which comprised most of the second half of their conference. While the earlier trailer informed us of actual storyline, this new one teases space battles and live multiplayer gameplay gives us a decent view of combat on Naboo. "focusing mostly on multiplayer, which will span all eras of Star Wars. All post-release multiplayer add-ons will be free this time around, meaning that everyone will be able to keep playing the game “for years to come,” according to presenter Janina Gavankar." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Next we have the teaser for their new IP titled "Anthem". It seems to be a vestiges of humanity hiding behind a walled settlement in a sci-fi world type-deal. More details to come later this week. ----------------------------------------- "A Way Out" is a prison-break co-op story driven game from the developers of Brothers: a Tale of Two Sons. It gives a very strong The Last of Us/Uncharted feel. This may be one to watch.
---------------------------------------------------- Madden, FIFA, and NBA titles are getting their 2018 iterations. FIFA and Madden are getting story-modes for that sweet sweet reality drama (???) ------------------------------------- Need for speed is getting a new title. -------------------------------------- Battlefield is getting an extensive expansion with "In the Name of the Tsar". The expansion will introduce us to more of the Easter front from WWI and bring in the Russians with a focus on the "women's battalion of death". They will also be adding a squad competitive mode alongside the expansion with more details coming out later this week. --------------------------------- Magnus also discovered this gem, which I hope we'll see more of at E3. "Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" A tale of a viking woman with mental illness stemming from trauma and bloodshed working her way through RAGNAROK ITSELF in a story driven game that is only retailing at $30. The team is attempting to bring back the medium sized games industry. They stand a fair chance, with 20 veteran game developers from Ninja Theory heading up the title. The game seems more along the lines of Tomb Raider or uncharted story-wise, but the developers said they're avoiding segments such as "this is the puzzle segment of our game" and "this is the fast combat segment" for a more balanced experience throughout. (This is) "the type of game you will be playing in the dark, with the sound all the way up for complete immersion." http://theskjaldborg.com/index.php?threads/hellblade-senuas-sacrifice.11727/
wish i had superhuman strength to ram a spear into someone and then carry them at the end of it all while riding on a horse.
Don't think you'd need superhuman strength to do what the video shows, now, keeping him there once the initial inertia rebalances and his mass resumes it's natural downward motion, that would require superhuman strength, but more likely they'd already have let go the spear by then. It's literally less than a second of the video he's carrying that weight, and a lot of that would be mitigated by the energy transfer at the point of impact.
There is a reason they used lances and not spears on horse back. Lances are normally shorter and wider to give it more strength and so it could be easily pulled out while riding. Spears on horse back from my knowledge are a use once and done kind of deal because they are longer and narrower causing them to break easily on impact and much harder to pull out while riding. The thrust on horse back is normally slightly downward causing the body to also go down and as the body passes the horse is normally when the lance is pull out through momentum of letting the body slide off. This can be dangerous depending on where the end of the spear is on the riders part along with grip. Edit for grammar
Lances were just as one use, they were just specially designed for the purpose. Once the initial charge is past the lance is a very unwieldy and difficult weapon on horseback and the soldier would be just as likely to discard it even if it did survive the initial impact, relying on secondary weapons such as sword or ax. In this particular instance however it seems more likely they chose spear because it can be used as a lance, or hurled as a javelin, since soldiers are less willing to cluster up into a convenient block of bodies to be trampled under hoof and blade. The reason they used the type of lances that we're familiar with was because of the vamplate, which prevented the hand from sliding along the haft of the weapon. The spears they're using seem to be extra long, and possibly possessing of a second blade, perhaps intended for quick recovery, or a secondary spear if the primary blade breaks off, honestly seems like that could end poorly if the rider loses grip on the spear after hitting someone and the guy behind him is too close

It's so bizarre seeing Angry Joe at the big boy's table as one of the YouTube Live journalists(correspondents?). AND Burnie Burns from Rooster Teeth
Anthems exo/javelin suits look like a mix of evangelion and destiny. not a bad thing. scripted dialogue sounds... nauseatingly scripted. AI didnt detect enemies that are 50 meters away in open terrain.
I'm not expecting arma levels of sophistication. However I do expect a enemy to know that I am there if I am within a rocks throwing distance and in open terrain. and it looks more like 15 to 20 meters as the tank just jumps down and a few steps later is already there.
-Bethesda Conference 6/11/17 9pm PST- All praise our lord and savior Todd Howard BETHESDALAND! ......The editor for this conference is getting fucking fired. Video keeps skipping and looping like a fucked record.
My main thoughts from the Bethesda piece: As disappointing as the rest of their (short) presentation was, I am pretty stoked to finally see the reveal for my Wolfenstein sequel I've been wanting. It looks to be a true sequel title, and, if initial clips are anything to judge off of, the worldbuilding, dialogue, and character writing that made me love New Order so much look like they will be strong in New Colossus as well. I think Doom VR will be a flop. The game itself is so three dimensional and fast-paced in nature that I can't see the VR control being anything but super clunky. The gameplay clips they showed seemed to confirm how awkward it would feel. I feel like their efforts would have been far better spent on just giving us the single-player campaign DLC we want. They used Quake: Champions as a dedicated talking point, but they really didn't give us any substance beyond what we already knew. Other than that, it feels like Bethesda is still trying to double down cash cow that is Skyrim. They spent time talking about things like Skyrim Switch and the ESO (Basically watered down Skyrim multiplayer) Morrowind expansion that we already knew a great deal about, and then introduced Legends: Skyrim expansion and touched on their paid DLC platform they're launching for Fallout4 and (shocker) Skyrim. Hell, given the releases of Fallout4 VR and Doom VR it's only a matter of time until they confirm the rumored Skyrim VR. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Skyrim, but the game is 6 years old now. They have to be working on the next one by now; at least give us a teaser.
As big fan of The New Order, color me interested. The only games so far I'm at least somewhat interested are The New Colossus, Forza 7 and Anthem. And even Anthem is just evolution of Destiny/Warframe/Mass Effect MP coop gameplay format. Looks interesting still. Forza 7 mostly 'cause I want to play some racing after a long hiatus. Project CARS 2 is on that list too though.
Some gameplay of the Dragon Ball FighterZ. Even though I don't play fighting games anymore, this looks pretty damn good. Arc System has done good job lately.
