I got a key in my humble bundle subscription, but I already have the game. Would be happy to give it away to one of you if you want it. A heads up, it's region locked so you won't be able to redeem if you're in certain country. Cursory glance made it appear that US, Canada, and the vast majority of Europe were good to go though. To make it easy on me, just quote me in this thread to let me know you want it. First come first serve.
Havent posted any updates here in a while but the big news is of course that overwatch 2 was announced. Next hero: Echo
Blizzard, just hurry up and make a movie already. I'd rather experience the story without the grind and microtransactions.
The cinematics are fantastic and they have created a great world with overwatch. The big selling point of Overwatch 2 are the story and hero coop missions. There is no grind, while there are levels. You have access to the same things at lvl 1 as you do on lvl 1000. The only micro transactions are for loot boxes and these only include cosmetics. You can gain lootboxes just from normal play.
Is this another one of those $60 games that also has premium lootboxes? Didn't mean for it to sound overly critical. I just don't think the game is really for me. I like the characters and general story premise and the expanded gameplay sounds cool, but I pretty well burnt out on arena shooters and can't say I'm much of a fan of this particular kind of monetization (I've really lost all patience for it in recent years). Personally, that's a hard pass for me; if for no other reason than I simple have too much on my plate already.
I think the way overwatch does lootboxes is ok. The lootboxes only contain cosmetics like skins, emotes, voicelines and similar. Nothing of it affects the actual gameplay. You can also earn lootboxes just from playing. You get one every time you level up. You also get one for every third win per week up until your 9th win (so 3 lootboxes) Considering that they release new heroes, maps and game modes for free. It's far better to have the lootboxes then being forced to pay for any new content.
I still feel uncomfortable with these sort of economies because there is too much room for abuse, but you make a fair point. Overwatch certainly isn't the worst of offenders.
Overwatch is, however, the game that made them so popular. So in a sense, we still have Blizzard to thank for getting idea planted with so many other companies.
I mean it's technically still the newest Blizzard IP but that is simply because Blizzard tends to be a bit on the slow side to work on new things. But it's been a few years now and the game itself is no longer new XD
I have been playing Overwatch on and off since its release up until february this year at which point it became my primary game where i now put at least a couple hours per week playing it. Overwatch havent seen any new hero or map since Echo was released in april and will likely not see anything new until Overwatch 2 is released. Which is suspected to come in spring but nothing official yet. Last anything was said was that there would be no news until Blizzcon which will happen in february. There are some rumors that a beta will arrive then. What we have recieved are the events and the usual new skins for them. The event game modes have received modifiers that have changed them up a bit. The workshop have seeen some great additions which have led to some fun game modes being created. The biggest and best thing is that they have worked hard on the balance. For some time we were getting new balance changes every 2 weeks. Over the years, Overwatch have suffered from power creep but it feels like they have gotten control of it now. I have seen alot of players say that Overwatch is better then it have ever been right now and i agree. Even old streamers and esport players who left the game have started to come back. 4,5 years since Overwatch was released and it' still going strong. I'm having a fantastic time with it and i'm probably looking more forward to Overwatch 2 then Cyberpunk at this point.
