Because I already have a good paying assembly job that pays so well that the wife and I are far behind on an increasing pile of medical debt. It also is so good that it's almost got us out of the slump were in thanks to my wife's thieving fucking sister who stole her identity. Oh and we are also supporting her father who's staying with us.
Yea, no money means that for one you can't buy games and more seriously you're struggling to move forward and obtain more money so you can't really waste time on friends or games. After I make a couple of millions I'll dedicate whole days just for games

is ED the new hotness? i've been on the fence with this game for 6 months now, will Powerplay finally be the update that gives people a reason to log in everyday? speaking of, which faction have you guys aligned yourselves with? i want to start mentally investing myself into their cause...
TBH I am not sure if this is a FotM game for us. This game got a lot of hype right off the bat since it and SC were seemingly so close together. The only problem is that to get into the beta it cost like 150 bucks. That kept a lot of people out of the beta for this game. Now we do have a few people who took the time and the money to play the beta but numbers wise it was a tiny fraction. Fast forward about a year and the game has been released. It is still a full priced game and is a rather niche type of game. I myself do in fact own the game and am having fun with it. Will I be playing in a year? Yeah I probably will be. With 400 million systems (yeas 400 million) the exploring side of the game will never really end. Combat wise it is a pretty solid space shooter where pretty things go boom in even prettier explosions. ED however has a pretty tiny player base in general for the size of the universe. At the moment I think Togg is about 4000 light years away from any one else in the borg. That said the AI in the game is pretty OK and the combat is what you make of it. Ships are pretty easy to control and mod out. The map is pretty easy to read and helpful. Missions in most any station, pirates to kill, lots of random shit. Anyway this has turned into more of a review of the game. FOTM: eh maybe but not really, it is a little too involved to just be FotM. It will take you a month just to really grasp all the controls and buttons. (don't let this scare you off, its pretty easy) Long term borg game: eh maybe again. With the smaller player base we could easily control a piece of space if we wanted but as with Togg it isn't that hard for people to end up thousands of light years apart. Some sort of forum organization would help with this. (like "be in this system on the 19th for funsies) Worth getting: eh....if you dig space games, don't mind seemly long waits for trains that don't come, like to pew pew, and have some sort of grasp of what is useful in game? yeah sure buy it. As a "borg game" maybe step back and look at time spent in game vs reward for the borg as a whole. Not saying we can't do it...it just might not be worth the effort of forming a "branch".
Considering that I'm so low on time for some time to come now this was actually one of the reasons to get this game in particular since I don't expect to be able to fly with others much of the time when I can actually play this as I live in the GMT zone and often have to quit my sessions after 15 minutes as it is. Also I had every Freespace and X-series game (except the latest fiasco) so I guess it's what I'm looking for.
I'm thinking I might as well. It's been staring me in the eye lately... I can't bring myself to spend 59 bucks on it though.

I grew up on space sims and have a full CH setup with trackIR so I feel almost obligated to buy the game and have for months.... but I haven't because it just seems like either a ship grind game or endless wandering game, which is awesome, but not sure that's worth $60 to me. that being said I'm really keeping my eye on powerplay. a calling to log in each day to continue the fight is awesome assuming we commit to a particular faction. Arena commander is fun occasionally but my machine isn't good enough to keep my FPS up and with the controller balance the way of is it's more frustrating than it should be. that being said how different is the flight model between elite and SC? I don't want to learn any bad habits for SC that I couldn't unlearn in a few days, haha
