Gihzmo.. a Honest opinion... if you enjoy single player and co-op then yes,,, if you are looking to be the big bad enemy of the state,,, not right now. for what I have been playing... its 100% enjoyable. and this Is in Beta...
I am honestly not that into PvP, I am more into Co-Op then anything. I assume though they do not have multi-crew ships. It is only single seaters right? What is there to do exactly, are there missions? Is it just trading? Is it simply flying around and doing whatever?
Yea thats definitely needed, but I'm hoping the consumer version will also be slimmer/lighter than the current one since wearing one of those on your head for long periods of time I feel would start tiring out the neck
Both the developers have said don't buy it, and so have most people that have used it. Everyone says wait for the consumer version. I have confidence that it is going to be a superior product.
For right NOW. Elite is basically single seat ships where you control everything yourself. that being said, FS took a different route to basically get to the same destination that SC has taken. they will be introducing walking around in your ship in a later expansion. where you will have for some ships, multiple crew stations. when first introduced there will be AI (Mechanical OR Flesh) that can be hired/bought to preform different jobs.. co-pilot, Gunner, Engineer, Boarding Marines. later there will be allowed friends to take these spots. the Cobra ship has a co-pilots seat that can be seen now, the Lakon 9 transport has 2 seats and a few work stations and the Anaconda has a shit load of areas that will need to be filled for maximum performance . Side note, was out of town all day yesterday and didn't play any at all, Today is the 4th of July and I will be doing the BBQ ribs thing, I may log on tonight to see if I can trade enough to get my bank account to 10 million, then Saturday/Sunday I will sell the Lakon and Buy a Anaconda to see what the heavily armed merchant ship plays like.
Got this recently, enjoying it quite a lot. Going to set up my joystick as mouse and k/b (for me) isn't the best to use for this game. Plus it will get me practice for SC!
Monday sees the release of "standard beta", lowering the cost of entry. I personally really like it, however I am waiting until they get groups in to play more. Here is a nice video showing it off in premium beta:
ok, Standard Beta started today, a few hours later than they wanted. had a few hiccups, servers were swamped, lag was pretty bad when in heavy traffic areas. but as it got later and the Europeans toddled off to bed, it smoothed out. the add on to the build and the tweaks and bug fixes covered 5 pages of notes from the devs. they added in 2 more playable ships. the Viper, a combat ship with 4 hard points and room for 8 tons of cargo. and the Lakon type 6, of which I have no clue as no one has been able to afford it yet. FD lowered the prices of ships from last build to now by a huge margin, (i'm guessing because there was much whining and moaning due to SOME people sucking and not being able to afford them). AI combat got tough, the devs decided it was time to turn up the AI difficulty and I think they went just a tad too far (which is how they operate) I had a epic battle with a sidewinder tonight, he was loaded with dual rail guns (those bitches HURT) he landed one full double shot on me, removed my shields and took my hull to under 50% durability, he then landed a single round which caused my canopy to shatter, leaving me with a mere 10 minutes of oxygen in my suit to make it back to a station. I ended up killing him and collecting a bounty chit, hauled ass out of there (with no HUD as my canopy was gone) and I made it back to the station and entered into the atmosphere with a meager 1 minute and 15 seconds of air remaining. it seems they have tweaked trading again, making the lower end of it way more profitable than during premium beta, (again I think they went a tad too far) (But that's how they operate, they try both ends of the situation and meet somewhere in the middle). All in All it was a fine showing for the first Beta build (Premium Beta was actually just a Alpha extension). EDIT: star system count has now gone from 8 systems to 55. and fuel was added in (its a minor cost at the moment) and jump range restrictions, my sidewinder can only make a jump of up to 6 light years.
I know how you feel Haki. I am watching a stream right now thinking about it.. but I am not sure I can bring myself to spend the money on it.
