I've changed from a person who ranted against the whole 40k to a person who now has two more omnibus sitting in the bookshelf waiting for me to have the time to read them.

For what it's worth, some of the books are like enduring the torment in the hands of the Interrogator-Chaplain. You have to put in conscious effort and power of will to wade through to the end.

Then the other books, man, they're just so awesome that it brings a tear to cheek to recognize that there are only so many pages left.

One of my all time favorites has to be the one with the Prospero Burns. My friend made me first read the Thousand Sons, which is the prequel for the Prospero Burns. And that Prospero Burns book, man, "they should have sent a poet", I can't describe how amazing that was. When it started out I was like, another book that starts out like the Dark Angels but unlike their first book it picked up rather quickly.

Sure, there are always errors with lore, there are many errors with physics and all - "laser cannon blast was deflected by the angled hull" etc., but I keep putting this on "grandma's account of an aerial raid" category. "It happened but the person telling the story gets some of the details wrong".

Alas, not all will ever love all the same things. Just wanted to say this from the perspective of someone who thought that it sucked. Some of it is actually pretty great. Also trying to read through the Horus Heresy books is fun. The very first book was great with how they set out to purge superstition from the galaxy and how they know that the 'Warp' dimension through which they travel with their ships holds no gods but sentient xenos entities native to that dimension and it's nature. And how it all progressively goes to hell.

I have never painted miniatures before, but a local group got together this week and I got to try my hand at it. They are not "good" by any stretch, but they turned out a little better than I thought they would. The face I just could not do, and the pictures shows all kinds of spots I missed, but it was fun and I want to try to get some paints and minis and practice.

I should take pictures of my Silver Tower set. It's almost 3 years I think that I've had it if I'm counting right and I've yet to paint one quarter of the 50+ figures.

I bought it so I could paint it and play it with the kids but I have been challenged by only having a few base colors and with the youngest one being a constant "react fast" presence - and when I get back the carefully mixed paints will have dried up and I can't recapture the exact same color.

When work eases down I will probably try and finish them up in the distant future - and get some more paints while at it.

If you can afford them, get your hands on the new contrast paints by citadel/GW. The whole premise is that you apply one thick coat of paint and you're done. If you combine with zenithal highlighting, you can get some pretty awesome results out of a very small amount of work. I'll post some pics when I get a chance.

Thanks for the tip! And indeed I've found out that in this ongoing phase of life it's hard to find the time to even dream of any perfectionism :D

Sooooooo, it's almost time for my first painting competition. I'm going to Monte San Savino Show in Italy in a few days, to mingle with best miniature painters in the world :tobattle:

My entries have been underway for almost 1½ year, and I'm really excited to see how they do in the competition. I haven't had time to get proper photos of my models, so the quality is not the best.

Just got back for Monte San Savino show, and wow, that has literally been a life changing event for me. The quality of the miniatures was staggeringly awesome. I didn't have much hope for any medals, but was rewarded beyond expectation, for my hard work :glee:

I set them up in order, so bronze in Fantasy Master painting (the three busts), silver in Historical Master painting (the two guys) and an amazing gold medal for my GIR piece :D
The quality of painting in Fantasy painting category was incredibly high, which is why the three busts "only" got bronze, even though they are generally better painted than the two dudes
