seriously saw poop dick for a few seconds. So the developer is based out of Kiev, that's a little different
They're a small indy-outfit: 7 souls in total I think. This would be their second title, the first one being Ultimate General: Gettysburg which is already released on steam and has a pretty loyal following. Their Lead Designer is the guy who made all those kick-ass Total War mods. They're history nuts, through and through - although they have a third title in the works which is going to be their first non-historical title (a sci-fi survival game of sorts - think Terminator).
It's happening!!! Like SC, it's being staged so invites are going out in small batches at a time however, they will start going out tomorrow morning (Friday the 21st). Good luck!
It's a fine example of a 74. Beside the 140-gun Santassima Trinidad, and the Snow Brig, the next ships to join the ranks would likely be two Russian-built ships, a Brig called "Mercury" of 20 guns, and a 3rd Rate called "Ingermanland" of 64 guns. A Brit-Canadian Brig called the HMS Ontario is also coming in. There's also some discussion about what ships the Americans will have to fight with during larger Naval Actions.
Ok, so I know jack shit about ship classes and types aside from big, small, lots of guns, not so many guns. Is there like a quick primer somewhere?
PotBS "Valiant", actually, but yes! Also, the PotBS version had the early stern gallery - the one in NA will have it's refit one (with two stern decks and much prettier woodwork).
The British system is used basically universally - it works like so: Ships are divided into "Rates" according to her general size and armament. These are: Unrated: Between 0 and 20 guns. This is the Rate usually for armed Yachts, Schooners, Ketches, Sloops, Yawls, Xebecs and Polaccas. 6th Rate: Between 20 and 28 guns. This is the Rate for Brigs, Snows, Post Ships. 5th Rate:Between 30 and 44 guns. FRIGATES!!!! 4th Rate: Between 46 and 60 guns. This is where the pure-blooded Men-of-War begin, sometimes called Ships of the Line of Battle (or just Lineships) 3rd Rate: Between 62 and 80 guns. The most popular Warships class - had the best characteristics of all Men-of-War. 2nd Rate: between 82 and 98 guns. The "Queens" of Rated Ships. 1st Rate: 100 guns or more. The Kings of the Seas. Flagships of the Fleet. If we're going to expand on this, I'm going to have to start another thread, but that's the gist of how Rates work. EDITED: For accuracy and including the Unrated.
I think you're being a bit generous with the 6th rates. Some of those smaller vessels would be brigs or ship-brigs, not a rated ship.
In Ep 8 of Blacks sails it has a well portrayed battle scene of two smaller ships fighting a 1st rate ship. The 1st rate ships managers to dodge the ambush and releases a point blank broadside, The result is devastating in a most graphic manner. I recommend Black sails if you like age of sail, Season one started a little pear shaped but it got better and better.
I may have been, yes - just saw that. Had my scale and descriptions mixed about. Thanks. Have edited my post for accuracy and great justice.
