Yea I should finish this campaign too... I was pretty far along, I remember it was some long ass mission where, when you think you are done, you're basically ambushed with very little room to maneuver or get cover on the very top right of the map by some small base, so my original mech set up was not ready for that and got steamrolled after I'd already spent like 45 minutes on that goddamn mission.

EDIT: Just looked it up, it was the 4th to last mission, called Extraction

    What does everyone else think?

I have gotten a Javelin F, basically a lighter slower Jenner.
I have not been on a city map yet.
I have been involved in a 3-way fight (I was Davion vs Pirates vs Liao)

I like some of the quality of life changes, like marking the areas and expectations better.
All in all, so far so good. But I haven't seen everything.

I stayed with 1.5.1 as a beta client to stick with roguetech. While there are some really cool things coming with this new dlc, it wasn't nearly enough to justify breaking my existing game play. The updated roguetech is expected in a few weeks to take advantage of the new base mechanics.

I have now fought on a few city planets as well as played with the Raven.

    Boy those are both fun.

Haven't played yet, how does the Raven actually work in practice? Does it prevent sensor lock even with sight?

Sorry for the delay, I was at a convention all week.

Raven is an interesting beast. The radar functions as a bubble around the Raven itself. The Raven gets two charges of "invisibility", everything friendly int he bubble gets 1.

Firing removes one charge. If an enemy enters the bubble, it also pulls down the effects.

Mechs can target things that are not invisible, but missiles still have a hard time hitting as long as they are in the bubble.

That is what I remember, it has been a bit and I am very sleep deprived at the moment.

Hey I actually finished the game... took a few more side missions to stock up on heavies and assaults. Ended the game on a lance of a King Crab, 2 Highlanders and a Battlemaster and butchered pretty much everything. The last mission was super easy aside from the fact that Behemoth took a face full of AC20s on the first combat turn that blew the head off my Battlemaster... 70 day recovery but ain't dead!

My kids named all my mechs (4 and 7), so my king crab was Mr. Aloha Love, my Highlanders were Duncan Donuts and Connor Donuts (they went with Dunking Donuts and I changed it to a Highlander (the movie) theme), and my Battlemaster was Peanut Butter Jelly.

    Is flashpoint worth getting?

I’ve enjoyed it, granted it was while running Rougetech so my experience would be different from vanilla.

Both DLC's are absolutely worth getting. Many of the Flashpoints give you good reason to keep a few medium and light mechs in reserve. Acquiring the Raven requires taking a lance of less than 200 tons (Sensor Lock recommended on your lightest mech pilot). The Target Acquisition missions specifically can be a real pain in the ass without a fast mech and/or ECM capability. I did a 5 star Target Acquisition that was basically impossible (x3 heavy & assault lances) without Sensor Lock or ECM + heavy LRM support.

I know some of that may sound hard, but if you are up for the challenge, it will definitely give you that.

Is RogueTech updated to work with Urban Warfare now?

I think so. Roguetech has other problems, but the mod team is pretty quick to getting it working again as soon as there is a patch.

I don't like it because it adds way too much bullshit boondoggles and experimental shit to the game that was never seen in that era... but that's just me. If you want to add more to your game while keeping it in theme and tone with the era, LagCat and I recommend the Battletech Extended 3025 mod instead.

Just keep in mind that any overhaul mod is going to break all your save data when there is a new official patch.

If a official update comes, there is a way to keep playing while waiting for a mod update; just revert to the last version of the game in the Steam game properties window.

There is a public alpha for testing but not a full release of RougeTech for the latest version that came with the Urban Warfare release.

I'm with Magnus on some of the experimental stuff, you can choose what things are added when you do an install of it but it doesn't give you complete control over everything tech wise. I'll have to try out the Extended 3025 mod, I've been gravitating towards RougeTech for the online community warfare side.

RogueTech gets a lot of mention only because it's the biggest and most popular, but I still wager that, objectively, there are better mods out there.

Probably my biggest issue with RogueTech is that the designers basically ran with the idea of "add everything, plus multiple kitchen sinks". From a design concept, I disagree with that approach; sometimes less is more, but I can understand the fleeting appeal of cranking everything up to 11. Still, (for example) adding "over a 1000 mechs" as the mod claims, is so fucking unnecessary. They even added a bunch of non-canon shit... it's just gross.

It is beside the point, but I should add that I asked a few questions with the lead designer (Lady Aletko) on her design choices at one point and she immediately attacked me:

Yeah, apparently I'm not "to the max" enough for her (who the fuck talks like that and isn't 12?). :wat:

Maybe she's a talented modder, I guess, but her mod is glorified fanfiction. Anyway... fuck her.
