Yeah, once your soldiers are leveled it becomes less noticeable - when a "penalty" shot is 70% instead of 25% it doesnt seem like you are hurting your odds. When firing, though, click on the "More Info" button and I think it shows you some of the math that factors in

Lt. Nahsty 'Kingpin' Balldanglez is a killing machine support trooper in my ironman game. Sergeant Myuu is also a badass, but keeps getting herself injured each mission. Sergeant Trevnor consistently brings the shotgun pain as an assault trooper. RIP Cpl. Blue Tavius. turns out walking into a hail of plasma bolts was a bad plan. you guys were right, this game is awesome.
Ive started an Ironman, Classic game. And like everyone else I end up changing the names to people I can relate to so I know how they are specced out. Im probably 7 months into the game and my memorial list looks like something from Gettysburg, im burning through people. Guess the heavy satellite funding and less so on the combat side is starting to hurt.
Best description ever. While I haven't taken to naming my troops after friends/family, once they get a nick name I usually delete their first and last names entirely - kind of like a call sign. I did one final mission friday before a weekend trip, which ended with 3 vets dead (A fricking car exploded EVEN THOUGH IT WASN'T ON FIRE). So with bitter thoughts stewing in my head all weekend I put my head down and bull rushed the next 5 missions with no casualties and got my replacements up to nickname status: Wild Bill - Assault/shotgun Black Devil - Sniper Jersey Boy - Support (has the classic XCom blow out hair) Sniper Wolf - Sniper (shout out to metal gear solid) I've sadly forgotten the rest for now, 2 heavies that replaced the dead.

well, Steel Bear, its not my fault that those stupid goddamn hover disc Bullshit Machines can throw grenades. Nothing else had ever thrown a grenade, how was I to know?
Mutons throw grenades all the time... however, you're lucky if the discs only throw grenades at you, they're way less damage than the main freaking gun that one hit killed my colonel heavy with full health.
