Lot of people were guessing that as well. Would make lot of sense lore wise too. There's still bunch of mechs in MWO that would fit right in BT's setting. FreeLC and DLC mechs are likely, especially after the HG lawsuit gets hopefully hosed down the drain. Warhammer and Marauder would be good additions to heavies for more reasons than the obvious one.

Talking about people dying. I haven't had such problems myself. Learned to be careful after some careless early missions. Now I have Dekker and Medusa in mobile long range mechs and myself and Glitch/Behemoth in heavier frontline mechs. Piloting/Guts was pretty good choice to start with in my opinion.

basically I was looking for planets with 'Inner Sphere' level technology, all the contracts I've found there have been for the closest major house.

You get a bunch of Liao missions in the abandoned middle zone of the map where you start, basically you rando have to travel to a system and see what they have, they'll generate new missions for every system you visit so you're not restricted to the ones you see on the contract screens.

I don't think I've seen a single head shot land and kill a pilot outright, bunch of injuries from torso explosions or falling down though.

If anyone's having problems, I haven't failed a mission yet. Lost a mech twice but mostly due to lucky crit hits that exploded a bunch of shit on the inside. Heaviest mech I have is a Quickdraw and I'm fighting at 2-3 star level pretty well without major losses / refits (maybe a lost arm or something per fight). My tenants to BT combat:

    1. Find cover and make them come to you (unless of course your doing a convoy attack or something else that doesn't allow for it. However even then there is an area that triggers the convoy, figure out where the exit is and position yourself in between before triggering it). They usually don't have enough LRMs to make you regret indirect fire.
    2. Focus fire. The first few mechs don't worry about overkill, just kill them, the later ones you can try to salvage (so pick your target order accordingly).
    3. If the enemy is carrying one big gun, precision target it and you can usually take it out in one volley. Firing at legs to knock them down and making them lose initiative is also great.
    4. Max your armor, stock comes with shit armor, it improves your survivability by a great deal even if you lose out on some weapons.
    5. Sensor lock lights, then they become easy to wipe out with a turn.
    6. Punching is great for knocking things over, finishing almost dead enemies, and knocking enemy initiative back a turn.
    7. DFAs are super effective
    8. If the enemy has turrets, make sure you stay out of their sights until escorts are down, and then out of their range until you can move your whole lance up at once to wipe them out in one turn.
    9. KILL THE SRM TANKS HOLY SHIT THEY HAVE 10 SRM 6s.

I have seen local government, Marik, Davion, Liao, Kurita, Canopus, Taurian, and of course Restoration. Along the borders is a lot of variety.

Adding a few points to this.
9 - SRM carriers, Demolishers, and LRM carriers are primary targets. They will mess you up bad.

5a - Taking a close range fighter with sensor lock is invaluable, especially if you have LRM support mechs. I rarely take hits from Demolishers or SRM Carriers now.

    1. Few exceptions to not enough LRM support, but yeah, cover is your best friend. LRM turrets, LRM carriers, and Stalkers are about the only thing that deck out a crazy amount of missiles, but cover does miracles to stop them.

Two things that will really help as well:

10 - Guts. It increases your pilots ability to not die and heal faster.

11 - Tactics is surprisingly effective. It allows a greatly improved headshot, faster initiative, and the ability to sensor lock.

Before traveling to the planet. There is a group of small icons of each faction, those that contest the planet are slightly bigger and more colorful.

When I was going to artu. since we were using com star tech to decode the info, going to a SLDF castle, and a com star outpost on planet. I fully expected a rom agent to be on the argo and do something crazy. With being stopped by white mechs with no decals claiming the castle now belongs to them and then cutting all transmissions.

Shreck PPC-carriers are also priority target. They spread their damage more than Demolishers but their effective range is huge.

Dropped with my Griffin, cent, and 2 shadow hawks. Enemy lance (capellans so full armor) consists of a griffin, quickdraw, Orion and a black knight. I haven't even done the 4th story mission yet.

Also glitch (overheated her Griffin on purpose) I had her jump behind the black knight to shoot it in the back. She isn't shut down just overheated. But the Orion went behind her and I had her melee the orion. She punched the head off a pristine orion.

Ooof... Smithson was first rough mission for me. Mostly 'cause my lance totally wasn't build for it and I tried to slug it out at the start instead of moving east and camping around the small hill there. Enemies also love to just sit on those mineral fields for some reason. My main character got three wounds and his Thunderbolt got DFA'd three times. I'm still amazed he survived in the end.
At least I got big pay out of it as I didn't destroy too many ammo dumps. And the King Crab parts were decent bonus too.

You can really tell that the people who had mechwarriors of themselves in the game did their own bio. The entire shit load of them need to learn how to write.

I just did Smithson, it was a pain in the ass even though I had pretty heavy LRMs. I almost had too heavy LRMs, because I stayed behind the hills, so I wouldn't draw all the turret and mech fire at once, so I ended up eventually in a small quarters combat situation with limited short range weaponry. Two of my mechs went down, no fatalities though. Next time I'd sensor lock and fire down those two LRM turrets immediately. I also only really had mediums, no big mechs yet that would've made it easy

Something that boggles my mind is how a tank that weighs 60 plus tons is no bigger then the size of a mechs foot when that mech weighs 55 tons.
