------------------------------ Looking at the capital province quarantine, the military is assisting the police. Notice how in Finland the soldiers are not pointing machine guns at their own people. In fact they don't even have their rifles on them. This is to protect lives, not to terrorize and threaten the people - and threatening to gun down your own people to save them is just nuts.
Well if you live in New York you apparently go to Florida. I’m seriously dumbfounded by how the Florida government actually believes these people will self quarantine when the reason they fled New York was to not be inconvenienced by having to stay at home in the first place.
When I saw this headline, I assumed it was Florida, not Maine: Armed vigilantes blocked a neighbor's driveway with a tree to force him into quarantine
I just wanted to see the two approaches side to side, Sweden has schools, restaurants and pubs open and in Finland schools and everything is shut down, capital is quarantined and of the grades 1-3 where only essential personnel are allowed to keep their kids at school there are only 7% of the pupils present at school in small groups. I think we can see A) a linear increase which may be further impacted by all the measures that have been put in place during last two weeks B) an exponentially climbing curve when there are almost no measures in place Edit: I checked the deaths. Sweden reported 36 deaths from yesterday, Finland reported 26 new infections - the 26 is the number of positives from tests performed that day. The Finnish new cases when the cases are positioned for the day on which the test was made - it shows a clear decline in the rate of new cases. Meanwhile my brother's family get to live out as test subjects in "let's see what this will look like with Laissez-faire". Edit2: Changed the image with one based on more accurate data.
Whenever I see something along the lines of "the U.S. now has the most confirmed cases of COVID in the world" but it sounds like the poster or news is surprised I go "why are you surprised? The U.S. is the 3rd most populous country in the world." It's probably going to be brutal in India once it explodes there. Amazingly it hasn't yet. It's there but unless it's not really being reported they have only had about 1,400 cases so far.
Well, China is plainly lying about their numbers. India is not exactly at a point where they can test everyone effectivly.
Yeah. But aside from those 2 countries I don't know why everyone I see (Americans) post about it are surprised. Maybe most don't realize the U.S. is the 3rd largest country in population.
Was wondering when someone was going to bring this up. Anyone that truly believes the U.S. has actually passed China in case numbers clearly has no idea how a Communist Regime works.
Tencent at the beginning of the outbreak in China had a tracker they would update everyday. Some people started to notice that for a few minutes the numbers would jump more then 10 times the amount of what was being officially reported by the government at the time. Tencent would get the numbers from the government as they were just giving people ease of access to track it. The Taiwan news broke the story back in early February. Shortly after the government shut down the tracker. Here is the article. https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/news/3871594
Shit. Just looking up Wuhan will tell you they are lying about their numbers. Wuhan has a urban population the same size as new york city. And new York state is currently at 75,000 or so confirmed cases I think centered around NYC. And supposedly China has only had 81,000 or so . That doesn't add up. And Wuhan is a much smaller area compared to NYC. 1,500 square miles (urban) about 8,500 sub-provincial city (whatever that is) to NYC 13,300 metro. So Wuhan would have a higher density.
This is why I included the "per 1M people" in my comparison. Otherwise you end up with "look, my city of 100 people has way less infected than India! Therefore it follows that with 9 dead our medical system and protective measures are far superior!"
So the captain of the USS Theodore Roosevelt has been removed from command due to "being critical of the higher ups handling of Corona virus onboard". Yes. Pretty sure that isn't why he was removed. https://www.npr.org/sections/corona...er-nxRpYwrVrobbIYPLOTYth3gerMrA5ygFeFZA2VaX78 Headline is slightly wrong. The USS Roosevelt is an arleigh Burke destroyer. The article is about the Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier (and they use the right name in the article).
The short take - how are the US Armed Forces engaging in force conservation measures to ensure operational capabilities? Among other things in FDF the staff has been divided to groups A, B and C which have been carefully managed so that they do not come into direct contact with each other and only one group is having all of their leaves at the same time after which the second two weeks is (if I got it right) indoor theory and two weeks of regular training. There are also further measures, a whole list of them including quarantine facilities and protocol some of which were used when I was in due to a some kind of diarrhea. But the short story is, the military has some of the best measures for both going on with business as usual while also isolating and quarantining any infected cells. I mean, you can't just go about "uh, sorry, no one on standby" if some neighbor makes a mock attack run at you. Sends the wrong message.
Just before easter-rush the police announced they will in part undo the quarantine of the capital. They plan to replace some of the physical checkpoints with "automated ticketing". Because, as a couple hundred thousand of capital folks rush for easter vacation across the border nothing stops the spread of disease like a speeding ticket. Someone more cynical might even argue that this is only happening because folks in the capital got tired of being quarantined so now they raise their hands up "we did our best, we can't help if people slip past the quarantine line!"
Im getting the impression from the news articles coming out of the down under that the Aussies are well done with chinas crap as of late.
