There are nuclear weapons for mechs in Battletech....

Buuut you can only pilot an urbanmech if you want to use them since it's the only canon design to do so >.>

Castille di Coltelli, Eastern Quarter (Martillo HQ)

    Zone D4:
As Gamma and Delta harried the Martillo defenses to the west, Alpha struck swiftly to the east. Their goal was a power substation that supplied electricity to the southern half of Castille di Coltelli. With it down, the Martillos would have to rely on auxilliary power for the city's defenses and they would be almost blind to night attacks. Reaching their objective would not be easy, however. The Martillos had positioned their heaviest forces, The Martillo Guard, to block Alpha's advance, yet Alpha Lance would not be denied. To aid them in this dangerous mission Boss Goretti sent some of his best infantry and fire support. The initial push into the city was bogged down by snowbanks, but once this support had reached the paved city streets, victory was almost assured.

And yet, there was room for doubt. Savio Drago had more tricks up his sleeve. Throughout the city, loudspeakers and huge vidscreens played a repeating message accusing Major Sullivan of nefarious scheming and betrayal. An old acquaintance had surfaced: the Grey Cat. She was the information broker the Commandos had first contacted on the planet for information on the location of the Mischief Maker. Her deal with Drago was nothing personal against the Commandos. This was just normal business. She had supplied Drago with evidence showing Sullivan's duplicity in not only delaying Skjaldborg dropships from landing, but secret dealings with another familiar face: Lily Morgana! Apparently, Morgana had never disappeared at all. After she and her crew had stolen the Mischief Maker, they continued to orbit the planet and had been playing cat and mouse with Martillo and Goretti aerospace forces ever since. Thanks to Morgana's efforts, there had never been anything preventing Skjaldborg dropships from landing at all; Major Sullivan was purposefully leaving high command in the dark! Drago accused Sullivan of using the Commandos to wage some personal and misguided war against him, but details would have to wait... there was still a battle to fight and the rest of Alpha Lance would not be deterred.

Alpha had always excelled in urban combat and even with the odds stacked heavily against them, this time proved no different. However, the victory this time would not be a flawless one. Near the end of the firefight, LagCat in his Wolfhound took a wrong turn that put him on the business end of a Stalker piloted by the Martillo force commander. The Stalker had actually been successfully swarmed by Goretti infantry only moments before and was mere seconds away from being brought down. In desperation, the enemy commander ignored the infantry clinging to his mech and targeted LagCat instead; determined to not die without taking someone with him. LagCat's Wolfhound was shredded in a hail of weapons fire, but LagCat narrowly escaped with his life. A few seconds later, another Goretti LRM barrage slammed into the Stalker, striking some stored ammunition, and exploding the mech in a massive fireball.

With the Martillo commander down, the few remaining infantry scattered and the battle was over. What first began as a covert raid had ended in a complete route of the Martillo's heaviest forces. If Alpha didn't have their attention before, they definitely did now. But what of these accusations against Magnus Sullivan? Was any of it true? Had he truely betrayed the Commandos for his own personal gain? The truth would soon be told...

GM Ruling: We are crossing into unknown territory with these Assault missions.

For those who don't know, Assault missions are rare/unique missions that are regulated mostly to faction HQs. If you had chosen to attack the Goretti stronghold, these would have applied there as well. The major difference with all assault missions (besides objectives) is that salvage becomes delayed. This is due to the nature of the stronghold you are fighting in and around. It is a heavily fortified position that severely reduces opportunities to call in salvage crews. Much like how salvage operations on the beaches of Normandy could not begin until the area was made secure, salvaging of disabled units will not begin until after the fortress falls. you will still get your rewards, but they will be delayed.

To offset the delay and to make successful Assault missions both unique and lucrative, the amount that can be salvaged also receives a major boost: each player is automatically allowed to salvage up to 50 tons per successful assault mission (this is total cumulative)! That's 200 tons of salvage per mission for each lance (roughly double what you are used to). If a player does 5 Assault missions before the HQ falls, that's 250 tons of salvage the player can claim as their own (again, after paying repair costs)!

There is only ONE exception regarding this: if you manage to capture a unit that still functions (most likely by killing the pilot/crew), you can call in an NPC to power up the unit and walk it off the battlefield with your lance. You essentially gain immediate access to the unit like most situations (you still need to pay repair costs if you want to keep it). In other words, a mech must be able to walk upright (cocpit, CT, engine, gyro, and both legs intact). This is easier said than done, but the easiest way is to use heavy amounts of cluster damage and "HIGH called shots" to increase chance for headshots (also, negotiating surrender). Also note that units captured this way do not count against your total salvage limit after the Assault!

At the end of a Successful Assault mission, all backlogged salvage (marked in green) will be available to claim by their respective lances. And remember: its 50 tons per mission for each player in this case alone!

Also note: this does not exclude the option of having a recovery mission to reclaim a specific unit (such as when a player is forced to abandon their mech during a mission and retreat). That way, players will still have the opportunity to reclaim their owned units should they fall in Assault missions.

minor update! i changed a typo above:

"at the successful conclusion of the Assault Zone, each player gets 50 tons of salvage for every mission they were in. this effect is cumulative. basically, this is 2x the amount of salvage you are used to getting, but it is delayed until after the HQ is taken."
(i accidentally doubled this to 100 before; that would have been 4x the amount of salvage you are used to! :xd:)
