What little free time I've had was spent trying to get my damn SpaceMouse Pro to work for Star Citizen. Now that I know for sure I won't have to return the damn thing (it works!), I will be directing my attention to Megamek. Would like to start as early as next weekend, Saturday (23rd), but I'm open to suggestions.

Turn 09 - Mission 01

When lines are drawn and loyalties are tested, it is not always easy to reduce things to black and white, friend and foe. For some, the only choice is to make no choice and seek a third path. For these mechwarriors, Magnus Sullivan was a troubled man, but he had promised them fortune and glory and he had delivered in spades. He was not their enemy... but the path of exile he now walked was no longer their own. Whatever friendship they still held for Sullivan, their kinship to the Skjaldborg was stronger. Sullivan would continue on his quest to find his family and they would return to their Rasalhague homelands... but not today.

Enraged by their series of devastating defeats and galvanized by the sudden fracturing of the Skjaldborg Commandos, the Martillos rallied their shattered forces for one final desperate attack. The Commandos had looted their territories and loaded anything they could of military value onto ground transports. Boss Martillo was determined to stop the Commandos from reaching their dropships by any means necessary. A victory now would be the only way to preserve his weakened authority.

Yet he would soon see his last hopes smashed upon the snow covered rocks of his own lands. To the east, almost two companies of Martillo forces struck with a fury that surprised the Commandos and nearly destroyed the waiting Skjaldborg dropship. However, the Commandos would not break so easily. The Martillos' strike shattered as Trevnor and Texugo charged into their line. Tzeentch and Hunter Gamma delivered a withering rain of long range devastation. Alexia was there at the critical moment to block a flanking maneuver. Last but not least, Ibex showed true heroism holding the central line even in the face of overwhelming opposition.

In the end, the Commando's defense held. The dropship escaped safely and most of the supply convoy retreated intact. The Commando forces took some casualties, but captured most of the attacking Martillo forces in the process. For the few Martillo survivors who managed to escape, there was no going home now; Boss Firo Martillo's infamous criminal empire was now nothing but dust and memory. Soon, their hated Goretti rivals would make their move and there would be none left on Novo Cressidas powerful enough to resist. The fate of this periphery planet was of no concern to the Commandos, though. They had crushed every obstacle in their path and now they were finally going home, richer and stronger than ever before.

The freezing arctic weather has cleared in time for the final battle that will decide the immediate future of Magnus Sullivan and his newly christened Blacksun Irregulars. Opposing their escape is a formidable contingent of Skjaldborg Commandos who seek to bring Sullivan to their own brand of justice for putting his own personal vendetta ahead of his duties to the unit. In their eyes, Sullivan has broken his oath to the Skjaldborg and must be dealt with accordingly.

Sullivan will not go quietly, however. For starters, a significant number of Commandos followed him into exile. His numbers have been further bolstered by the return of Lily Morgana's team. The Mischief Maker she captured from the Gorettis remains a serious threat, but Sullivan seems reluctant to unleash it on his former brothers-in-arms. It appears as though the Blacksun's priority is to load up whatever they can carry with them and extract from Novo Cressidas; avoiding direct confrontation with the Skjaldborg if at all possible.

The more hawkish Commandos, however, are not the least bit intimidated. In their minds, the spoils of war from this campaign belong to the Skjaldborg alone. If Sullivan and his Blacksuns want some of the prize, the Commandos intend to make them fight for it. Both sides must tread carefully, however. There have been reports of Goretti agents operating within the city. It is unclear what their objectives may be, but it is safe to assume they are planning to exploit the situation for their own ends.
