    Tamar City - Mercenary District

Our time on Tamar has finally come to an end. Duke Kelswa has been cooperative in allowing us access to some of his better repair facilities, but I feel he is doing it for reasons other than simple charity; he wants us off his planet as soon as possible without any further incident. I believe he is worried our continued presence may provoke further aggression from his still hidden enemies.

I am eager to not disappoint him. Lilly Morgana has a job for us that is too tempting to pass up: hunting the infamous 'Mischief Maker'. The stories of her exploits are legendary. It would be a fools errand if not for the information Morgana has on her. Flight recordings, crew rosters, schematics, and access codes; her work is surprisingly thorough.

Still, our search is taking us to Star's End. Only the pirates, thieves, and murderers who call that system home take any solace there. The most famous of pirate havens for centuries, various attempts to impose order on this system have all ended in failure. It is definitely not the system you visit unless you have good reason to be there. Morgana says she has the right IFF codes to get us safely past the static system defenses and patrols, but it isn't enough to let me sleep easy at night.

We are swimming in the shark tank now.

"Ok people, we've been preping for this operation over the past month. All this should be review for you, but listen up and focus! This information could mean the difference between life and death for us. I will now turn things over to Specialist Morgana."

(data provided by Judith Shepard/Lilly Morgana)

    Crow's Nest.jpg
"Thank you, Major Sullivan. I have provided everyone with all the information available to me on our target. Everyone open up your mission docs and review the mission plan with me.

"We are on a fast and direct burn to the Mischief Maker's primary safehouse, Crow's Nest. Our stolen IFF codes should be enough to get us past the SDS located in the region. It is unknown at this time if the Mischief Maker is docked there, but we must assume that if she is, we will only have about 10 minutes to attack the asteroid base before she can launch. Our dropships don't have the firepower to engage her directly so it will be up to our aerospace pilots to quickly disable the main hangar doors. With a little luck, we will trap her inside and make her capture that much easier."

    dungeon PC crowsnest guide.jpg
"Once the surface of the asteroid is secure, we will move in our three boarding teams. We cannot dock a dropship at the Auxilliary Docking Station (ADS) while the enemy controls it. Instead, our boarding teams will gain entrance by EVA using the personnel access ports around that module. The ADS is likely to be well defended by this point so remember your training and be careful."

"Once you have gained access, immediately activate the ADS so our dropship can begin the docking sequence. Once this has begun, immediately take and hold the Auxiliary Power Station (APS) to ensure they do not cut power to our docking efforts. Hold at the APS until our dropship docks and can provide you additional support. From the APS, you will then need to take the Control Center. There are two levels with two rooms for each level. From the Control Center you can control all doors and operations on the station."

"At this point, it will be a relatively straightforward sweep and clear operation. Secure the Power Station, Maintenance Tunnel, and Waste Processing center first and then move on towards the Habitation Modules and Hangar areas. Watch your fire in the workshops and hangar. It is likely there will be a lot of hazardous equipment here. We want this place intact."

    "Any questions?"

    Commander's Log

What a mess. As we approached Crow's Nest, it became evident that something ugly had happened here long before we arrived. One of the habitation modules had been mostly destroyed and power was off to all but the most critical functions. It appears this place has been left abandoned. Then we started finding bodies inside. There had been some kind of major firefight. As we made our way to get the power back on, the number of bodies we found increased. The former occupants of Crow's Nest had apparently tried to seal off the doors to the main power station. The reason for this did not become evident until we attempted to enter ourselves... Crana.

    Crana.JPG

We pushed back three waves and they still kept coming. Before being overwhelmed, we narrowly escaped with our lives out the door we came in. One gave MH a nasty laceration on the arm, but it looks like he will be okay. Unfortunately, we still have to get the power back on if we want to get down to the main hangar. That means getting past the Crana. We are now resting in the Command Center while we wait for reinforcements and supplies. I just hope those damn bugs don't find a way around the doors before we get those flamethrowers I asked for.

We've finally managed to bring the crana infestation in check. Who knows for sure how long they've been here; those damn things can survive almost anywhere. Otack, Skwi, and MH suffered some injuries and our medics are dressing their wounds right now. The medics tell me they see no sign of infection... which is good; I have the feeling we will need every man we can get. The main power system has been restarted and we resealed the power station to prevent the remaining crana from spreading. With a little luck, they will stay isolated there until we can get off this cursed rock.

With full power restored, the story of what happened here has begun to be made clear. Station records reveal there was a mutiny. Some sort of rivalry that boiled over between the XO and chief engineer. It appears that the survivors of the losing side were left stranded on Crow's Nest. These survivors must have been holding out on this station for months before the crana first appeared. Without the numbers and equipment to deal with them effectively, the remaining survivors were slowly overwhelmed and slaughtered to a man. We have yet to search the whole station, but I am beginning to have my doubts we will find any survivors.

We've found the captain of the Mischief Maker. Unfortunately, Captain Buck "Starhound" Harrison is not much for talking these days. Apparently, when the mutineers failed to kill him by destroying his habitation module, they sealed him inside his office and cut off his air supply. Death by asphyxiation... bad way to go. I suppose he could have shot himself, but it looks like he wasn't the type to go quietly. Before breathing his last, he managed to leave a parting message on his computer. The message dates back to almost a year ago. A lot of useful info on what was going on here, but he had saved the best for last:

In the workshops... something more "powerful" than the Mischief Maker? What the hell has Morgana gotten us into?... What have I gotten us into?

The package has been located . It contains what appear to be plans for something called "Project Harbinger"; some kind of advanced dropship. I can't understand the details of its significance, though. Maybe one of our techs can make sense of it.

The majority of Crow's Nest has now been searched. The habitation, cargo, and workshop areas appear free of crana. All that remains is a search of the main hangar. The main door has been locked shut and we have no way of knowing what is in there. The keycard from Harrison's office can get us in, but I have an uneasy sense of what lies beyond those doors. The techs are still working on getting a camera feed on the interior, but we may have to go in blind. Best to expect the worst.

We finally found some survivors, but they aren't much to look at. I guess Giovanni is a man who doesn't like loose ends. After securing the Mischief Maker for himself, Giovanni abandoned the remaining personnel on Crow's Nest. Not only did he disable the main hangar door and shut off the main power, it was he who released the crana on board the station. My guess is the crana were intended to discourage any further investigation on what took place here. With no escape off the station, the few that survived the crana swarm gathered what they could and hunkered down in the main hangar. Looks like they had attempted to repair a mothballed Avenger dropship inside, but couldn't get it operational. Months of hunger and paranoia took its toll on the crew from there.

When we found them, they were emaciated and confused. Worse... we found signs of cannibalism. In their compromised mental state they feared we had come to finish the job; rather than surrender, their madness drove them to attack us. We managed to capture three of them, but one is critically injured... not sure if he will pull through. No sign of the XO, Ben Kingsley. Will have to interrogate his remaining crew later when they have recovered. The female survivor is conscious and keeps muttering about the hangar being "cold and safe... cold and safe". It's distant location from the crana nest must have helped keep them alive. Her unsettling behavior has upset some of the crew and I've had to isolate her from everyone. Morale is low and people's nerves are on edge.

The station is a damn graveyard and this whole operation is turning into something more than I bargained for. From what I can tell, Giovanni is well established on Novo Cressidas. Pursuing this new lead further could be disastrous. Dead captains, mutiny, cannibalism, betrayal... this whole mission stinks of something bad just around the corner. I'm tempted to just strip this station of anything useful and abandon this search for the Mischief Maker. Maybe we could get something for this info on "Project Harbinger" back in FRR space.

Captain Lily Morgana waves her hand in a dismissive gesture and turns to float down the access tunnel.
"I won't argue about this anymore. I've made up my mind. We are out of options, Sam. I'm going to tell the Major."

Her long trusted partner, Sam Turlington, shouts down the tunnel after her.
"Morgana, this is a mistake! We don't know for sure how he'll respond! We still need him for our ride out of this mess!... And what makes you so sure he will still want to help us after you tell him?!"

Morgana shoots a glare back at him.
"Sam, keep your voice down! You know I value your expertise, but you've got to trust me on this. I've never led us wrong in the past. Don't you dare get cold feet on me now after everything we've been through. We are going to get what we came here for. We do the job; we get in and we get out... like we always do. Period"
As she reached a bend in the access tunnel she looked back at Sam.
    "Trust me."

Sam looks at her and then grimly bows his head in passive acceptance.
As Morgana turns the corner, Sam mutters to himself, "...but how many bodies are we gonna have to go through this time?"

    ====

Major Magnus Sullivan was in a bad mood already and Morgana was probably the last person on the ship he wanted to see. As she enters the dropship command deck, he purposefully avoids eye contact.
"Captain, I had zero time for you 20 minutes ago. I've got a battalion of military hardware looking for something to do and no objective in sight. We are burning more fuel right now than either of our paychecks will cover. Congratulations to finding your pirate stash of bootlegged pornos and lovely crayon drawings that I guess count for ship blueprints out here. Now excuse me while I try to find a job that is profitable for my command."

"...Magnus, please... there is something you need to know... something... private. You need to hear it before we leave Star's End."

He finally turns his head to look at her. His jaw tightens.
"How 'private'? I swear to God, I will space you myself if you are trying to blackmail me."

Morgana is suddenly surprised by a feeling she hasn't felt in a long time. Could it be... embarassment?... worse... shame? She stammers slightly.
"N-no... and I'm sorry... I didn't know for sure until I had more time to look at the station's logs here."

    "Don't waste my..."

Her confidence returns as quickly as it left. Frustrated, she interrupts Sullivan loudly enough to raise a few heads.
    "I found him, Major!"
Then, lowering her voice to almost a whisper.
"I found... the Butcher. He's here."

A new fire... a terrible fire burns in the Major's eyes. Only Morgana notices.
"Treabhar, you have command! Morgana, in my office. NOW!"

    TO BE CONTINUED...

Magnus Sullivan briskly enters the office and slams the door lock button with his fist. Lily Morgana stands leaning against a wall to his left. She bites her lip and hesitates to look him in the face. She appears vulnerable... intimidated... Magnus can't be sure if it is an act. He grabs a nearby chair and throws it against the adjacent wall. The chair smashes into an already broken computer console. Her flinch is genuine. Still red faced, he glares at her... then relaxes and
    sighs. Methodically he speaks.
"Don't. fuck. with. me. No more tricks. Where did you hear that name?"

"You have to understand Magnus... information gathering is my business. When I heard you were on Tamar I did some checking on your background. Remember? When we first talked about this job, I told you this."

"Get to the point quickly, Morgana."

"I managed to piece together old reports from the local newspapers. 'The Butcher of New Belfast' they called him. Your family was mentioned. I'm truly sorry..."

Anger rises in his voice again.
"Let's stick to the present, shall we?!
You planned all of this didn't you? You knew even before we left Tamar!"

"I swear to God I didn't know! I only had bits and pieces to go on. I wasn't even able to get a name until we were already on our way here. All I knew was that his trail led to somewhere on the Rasalhague-Lyran periphery."

    Magnus furrows his brow.
You didn't bring me all the way out here for him. What is your game? At what point were you going to tell me?"

"Like I said, I only knew what you knew when we left Tamar. The job was legitimate; I wanted to find the Mischief Maker and I needed plenty of hired guns to do it. Your background checked out. I knew I could reasonably rely on you not to leave me stranded in pirate territory."

She smiles and tries to lighten the mood.
"Come on, Magnus. You are kidding yourself if you think this is the first time your employer has done a background check and not told you about it."

"No... but this is different and you know it."

"Look I know... I really am sorry. Like I said... things developed as we traveled here. You want to know why I've been so eager to make regular connections with the HPG network? Now you know. I was piecing together the puzzle. Your puzzle. I learned long ago to never travel with strangers without an insurance policy. I figured worst-case scenario, I could barter whatever new info I found if... if..."

    "If I betrayed you?"

"Can you really blame me? Look at the world we operate in. You can't be too careful. The MRB is a joke and we both know it. Besides, it has no influence out here. Like I said... I needed some insurance."

"So now that you've been so kind to share, I suppose you expect me to stay?"

"I know... I'm a bitch... but think of it this way; now we can both get what we want. I don't expect you to thank me, but you should know it wasn't cheap getting the info on him. In some ways I've done you a favor."

"Funny how it still doesn't feel like that..."

Lily chances a wink that he pretends not to notice as he slumps into an unbroken chair.
"Oh come now, Magnus. You will feel better after I've shown you what I've found."

Magnus stairs at the wall appearing lost in thought. The tension in the room deflates. Lily moves to sit on the corner of a nearby desk and waits for a response. They sit for a few minutes in silence until she becomes visibly bored. She raps the desk with her fingers, stretches, and yawns.
"Magnus, as much as I appreciate these little interrogations of ours, I am starving. Feed me dinner and I will tell you everything you ever wanted to know."

She walks toward the door, unlocking it.

Magnus finally speaks, but his gaze remains fixed to some other time and place.
    "Just one more thing, Lily."

She stops halfway through the door.
    "Sure."

"If we had found what you were looking for... if you were standing on the bridge of your prized ship right now, would you have told me all this?"

"Of course..." Lily looks back towards him. "... for a small finder's fee."
She pauses and her voice changes slightly. It almost sounds like concern.
"Just promise me you won't go all Ahab on me with this, okay?"

Magnus doesn't turn to face her.
    "...Aye, Starbuck..."

The station's intercom buzzes to life.

"Attention all stations. This is the Major speaking.

I'm sure we can all agree that the hunt for the Mischief Maker has been a disappointing venture. I'm sure many of you...including myself... were looking forward to returning to Rasalhague space. Unfortunately, Star's End still has more work for us to do.

Recently discovered information has shed new light on the mission that I cannot in good conscience ignore. We have made contact with an informer on Novo Cressidas who has valuable information regarding the Mischief Maker and her recent activities. The information is legitimate and the potential for profit too good to pass up. That means we are making planetfall, people. Everyone be on your guard; Novo Cressidas is a pirate haven in the truest sense. In case you've been asleep so far, know that the only law known on Novo Cressidas is mafia law. Various crime families have been fighting eachother over this forsaken ball of rock and dirt for centuries.

    http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Star's_End

The situation on the ground is particularly well suited for Morgana and her team. She will be posing as the leader of a pirate company. We will be her muscle. A select few of us will be accompanying her as she gathers info on the surface. Of all of us, she is the most experienced in dealing with pirates. I know some of you still have your misgivings about her, but make no mistake on this: success of this mission will require we trust one another.

Finally, I would like to address the rumor of a new bounty mission being offered. An opportunity has presented itself to collect a sizable bounty on Savio Drago. He is wanted for many reasons, but chiefly among them are charges of genocide, human trafficking, grand larceny and assassination. He has been a very bad boy. 16 million C-bill bounty to whoever brings him in alive; 8 million if dead and we can identify body. Thanks to Morgana's investigations, we have learned that Drago has been living a comfortable life on Cressidas as the chief enforcer of the Martillo mafia family. Getting to him will not be easy. His boss, Firo Martillo, trusts him implicitly. Fortunately, we have a way of making our job easier.

It will require a little acting of each of you all. We will be disguising ourselves as pirates recently arrived from a successful looting spree in Lyran space. We will be offering ourselves as free agents to the highets bidder on Novo Cressidas, but in reality, we will be positioning ourselves to get closer to the Martillo and Goretti families.

You may or may not recall that the Mischief Maker was stolen by it's first mate, Ben Kingsley. He appears to be operating with Benito Goretti, a powerful and ruthless mob boss who is responsible for the deaths that happened here on Crow's Nest. Goretti has become fat and complacent off his recent exploits. We will use this to play him and the Martillos against eachother... and in the chaos we unleash on Cressidas... we will take everything we came for... and burn the rest.

Give no quarter and send these pirates back to the stone age.

All officers report to the command center in 3 hours for mission briefing."

    It begins...

Zone D4: A hard fought victory for Alpha Lance. Our overconfidence was almost our undoing. We snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, but only just barely... and unfortunately at the cost of Ghiest's Catapult. Despite all of our best efforts, Goretti's heavy forces were determined to take one of us down. Credit should go to Ghiest for being a good sport about it. His character will be spending the next two months recovering from severe injuries. Be sure to send your regards.

    TURN TWO BEGINS
May 24, 3049 (Standard Terran Calendar)
    System: Star's End
    Planet: Novo Cressidas (northern hemisphere)

    Turn02.PNG

Things have escalated quickly in the course of a week. Our forces have pushed deeper into the Goretti lines than anyone expected. The information Morgana has supplied us on enemy locations and disposition has made it easy to catch them offguard. Unfortunately, there has been no word from her in the past 48 hours. We can only assume that Benito Goretti has somehow caught wind of her interference. In her last communication, Morgana said she was close to finding the location of the Mischief Maker. For now, we can only hope to gain more info on her status in the coming week.

The scope of this mafia war is expanding. Goretti Force #1 appears to be retreating into the desert after the beating it took from Beta, Gamma, and Delta. More Goretti forces have appeared from the mountains in the southwest. Our Martillo "allies" are moving to engage them.

Meanwhile, Savio "the Butcher" Drago is moving south with Martillo forces to join us. He clearly wants to take credit for the destruction of the Gorettis. We will let him... and then we will crush him. No doubt his boss, Firo Martillo, is watching the situation closely. We should wait to make our move until after both families have worn themselves down and Drago has been located.

Steady yourselves and watch your backs, Shieldwall!

Electromagnetic interference and a ranging windstorm gave some difficulty for everyone to hit... well.. anything. As the storm intensified, the fight quickly devolved into a brawl. However, the tide quickly turned when the enemy command truck was finally located and destroyed. With the help of Martillo allies (thanks Val), Gamma pulled off a stunning victory, capturing the enemy supply camp while sustaining minimal damage themselves. Great job, Gamma!

Me and an old buddy I used to go drinking with, we took this pic on Rasalhague. Beautiful aurora, isn't it? They're faint as hell during daylight so you really can't see em 'cept at night, but I gaurantee you it's a sight worth staying up late for. Especially if you got a good barrel of mead with you and a bunch of drunk bastards to share it with. They're caused by solar winds slamming ions against a planet's magnetic field, funneling them down to the poles and.... okay, beyond that's not important. All you need to know for right now about them is that, aside from crazy powerful thunderstorms, auroras are the only natural source of electromagnetic interference due to weather. Now while you probably don't wanna take a VTOL up there and go flying through it, trust me on that one, they're not powerful enough to affect mechs on the ground and only occur with any frequency near the magnetic poles of a planet.

At least... that's what my life has lead me to believe. Now either my whole life up until this point has been a complete lie, or what we saw yesterday was a certified FRRREAKSHOW!

We had successfully rendezvoused with some Martillo reinforcements and were proceeding along a southwest vector into what we were hoping was OpFor's flank. Suddenly, and in the middle of CLEAR DAYLIGHT the sky lights up like a fucking New Year's festival. Our targeting equipment and sensors go to complete SHIT almost instantly. To make matters worse, the prairie winds picked up to gale force strength. I don't think there was so much as a one minute interval where the winds dropped below 90 kph.

So caught up in the freak weather, we stumble around completely lost without radar and manage to miss the intended enemy force entirely. Instead we walked right into an enemy supply encampment that managed to catch wind of us beforehand and set up an ambush in wait. Worse, what comms chatter we could intercept from them indicated that they had called the enemy unit we missed for reinforcements. FUN.

At this point we figure our options were to either fall back to avoid getting caught in a pincer, or rush and take the enemy light supply camp, slaughter everything, and break even for the week to fund the rest of our repairs. Well, we crested that ridge overlooking the enemy encampment to see what the flavor of the day in punching bags is, and get our first good look at the well armed and supported enemy assault lance. Like I said, fun. Initially, it looks like we were in for the fight of our lives. A Zeus, a Crusader, a Warhammer, 2 missile trucks, what...we could only assume was some sort of makeshift ppc emplacement, and a Battlemaster. Oh GOD, the Battlemaster. Whoever this guy is, he has some BANK. The Gorettis are packing some serious range, loaded out the ass with ppcs and lrms. We're on one hill, they're on another, and between us nothing but open terrain and some smaller hills lining the north and south side of the area of operation. We think about this for a sec and figure that closing the distance is out of the question since that much firepower would waste us. So we set up on the hill behind what cover we can find and prepare to pick them off as they close the distance to our "lesser force".

These guys... they aren't the usual thugs we get thrown at us even by the mafia's standard. They held position on the opposing hillside and played to their strength. It was bizarre to not see the bloodthirsty charge we've come to expect of pirates and thugs. They were cold and calculating, WAY too organized, and to be honest a little intimidating even. The electromagnetic interference was making our ranged tactic almost useless. The whole fight it screwed with our targeting systems and placed shots way off target, you couldn't hit a building with an LB-x 10. They must've figured out they had the advantage in holding ground since reinforcements were in route.... we had to close that gap and get on top of them but our heavier mechs wouldn't be able to make that speed unless they crossed right across the open field and into the killzone.

And that's when we noticed it. The Gorettis weren't hitting us. I mean not as much as they should've been. Don't get me wrong, they were SENDING the mail and were well within range for their loadouts, it just wasn't getting delivered. Hell, I saw that Warhammer close to within 300 meters and he was still missing with the ppcs. That damned/blessed aurora was affecting them too! We took the opportunity to close. The Martillo mechs took to the far south while our heavy mechs followed them just off the ridge to prepare to push center. Helgrim though, that glorious, crazy bastard, he JJ'd all the way long the northen cover to get right within heckling distance of their Crusader and missle truck on the northern hillside without even being spotted.

    So we made the push.

The Martillo mechs started taking immediate fire. Built to brawl, they couldn't really defend themselves yet, but bless 'em they were determined to close. Oh yeah, our support. Right, so we got a Splatapult, a Hunchback, and a Locust backing us up. The Catapult had already taken a few hits but man it and the Hunchie closed on the enemy Battlemaster like mechs possessed. The Locust though... poor thing. I don't know what they've done with those ppc emplacements, but if any of you other guys see them on the field, DO NOT FUCK AROUND. Maybe they were just lucky but those things placed dead center shots on the Locust at max speed, and another on Sigvaldsson's head at MAX RANGE, EMI be damned. With one mech almost in the grave our fight begins proper with everyone firing their weapons and, of course, no one hitting. I think only the turrets manage to get any real decent shots in. At this point the Assault lance has pushed themselves back against the terrain to try and continue engaging us at range while the Battlemaster's drawing fire. Helgrim is dancing with the Crusader and the missile truck still, as we agree that he should attempt to move south more and get up behind those turrets to knock em out. He makes one jump, ONE JUMP, further south and we see the ENTIRE enemy lance with the exception of the Battlemaster change route to stop him. They don't even have a shot on him yet with that terrain in the way and our eastern forces were a more immediate threat. There's no way some slipshod ppc emplacement was worth that much too them... something else was behind that hill. It was at this point that our Locust had sacrificed itself, trying to get close enough from the south to get a visual for us on the new target of interest. The second he pokes his head out the ppc turrets blew him away. The pilot ejects and I'm almost certain I watch the winds take his body two kilometers away into the country side. Fortunately, he bought us the distraction we needed. With almost the whole of the enemy force chasing Helgrim, they either forgot or intentionally left the Battlemaster behind and exposed in their haste. Our Martillo thugs are more than happy to run right up past it and dump their primary fire into its sides while our mechs close distance taking opportunity shots. As per norm, almost everything misses. In fact, every single srm from the Catapult manages to completely whiff past a target at 60 meters. The hunchback gets a good hit though, and if I recall correctly our Crab manages to hit em too. Meanwhile our Griffin punches a truck right in the face and starts playing grab ass with the enemy force, because apparently between his jump jets and the EMI there's not a chance in hell they're gonna get a shot on him.

The Martillos run right on past the Battlemaster and finally put an end those enemy turrets out of sheer spite for killing their Locust. Side note, those turrets may be accurate as hell but they're held together with glue and rubber bands. The Battlemaster starts panicking now as no doubt he suddenly realizes the 215 tons of fun he had backing him up 30 seconds ago just left his ass high and dry. He makes to go rendezvous, but that just gives Sigvaldsson and Kirk the very opportunity they need to get up right behind and bugger his arse. Me and my Banshee lumber out from behind the cover of the low hills and start drawing his fire. Within half a minute we've pushed him back up against the hill and stripped his right leg of armor and disabled the PPC. The Martillo thugs run right on past the wrecked turrets and locate the target of interest, and the apparent source of our enemy's bizarre organizational capacity, a heavily armored HQ truck with comms equipment. The Hunchie is more than happy to put two rounds of rounds of AC20s dead center into the bastard, ending him and the enemy comms in one swift move. This is apparently enough to convince the Battlemaster it's time to bugger out, and he makes for the south. Unfortunately for him, we've pretty much reduced his running speed to something more along the lines of "pitiful limp". We move the Banshee and Crab west to reinforce our Griffin and Martillo units while Kirk chases down the Battlemaster to leg him giggling like a madman the whole way. Can't blame him, an intact Battlemaster is gonna be damn good salvage pay.

Helgrim has managed to completely disable one of the missile trucks and has given that Crusader the beating of its life. As we crest the hill to support them the Martillo units are already hanging on by a thread. In short order, Kirk manages to kick what remains of that Battlemaster's leg out from underneath it and comes over to join us in tearing up the Zeus and Warhammer. We make the Zeus go prone but the Warhammer and remaining missile truck move nearby to cover him as the Hunchback finally bites the dust. The Crusader we manage to keep separated from his friends and force him unto one knee with concentrated fire. Oh yeah, almost forgot. Apparently, getting a mech to stand up in 90-120 KPH winds? Fucking forget about it, it's an uphill battle all the way and that's if you've actually got arms and hands on your damn mech.

At this point the Catapult's overheating so much he decides to make a show of it by going supernova. He runs right up next to the Warhammer and detonates his own srm stores with the excess heat. This strips the enemy mech of much needed armor off the legs and placing him in a similar position as his Battlemaster buddy was in just a little while ago. Helgrim's finally decided he's done playing with his food and kicks the Crusader in the head, killing it and adding a second mech to our salvage pool. After making VERY clear he wants the Zeus to part in kind the enemy pilot decides he's having none of that and ejects. Of course, he promptly gets whisked away by the magnetic gale force winds of doom and probably died impaled on a tree or rock somewhere.

The second missile truck eats Crab Claw for its last supper and the crippled Warhammer tries to make a facing retreat of it for a second before seeing four, essentially undamaged heavily armed mechs bearing down on him. He decided to take his chances with the wind instead. After inspecting the battlefield we've discovered infantry tracks of what we're estimating to be a mechanized platoon in size and strength that simply up and vanished. Poor bastards must have got caught outside in the freak aurora storm.... huh. Note to self, cool name for a mech 'Aurora Storm'.

Right so anyways the supposed milk run, turned fight of our lives, turned milk run again but with twice the expected salvage pay has been an... overwhelming success. We managed to haul back four almost fully intact assault mechs as well as their vehicle support. Kirk's estimating after the Martillo's cut and the pay to command, we're looking at a sizable pay of around 1.4 to 1.5 millions cbills each. The Battlemaster pilot blacked out when his mech fell over and we've taken him in for questioning. Despite my initial worries, the freak storm actually worked in our favor by giving us "cover in plain sight" enough that we could close the enemy distance without worry.

    In Summary:

1 -If you see those makeshift ppcs emplacements, double your caution.

2 -The Martillo's are sending in officers and command units now apparently, don't expect ranged units to just close on you. The rank and file thugs are being given orders now and know to follow them.

3 -We'll be interrogating "Rich Boy" for some information on the Goretti forces. Looks like he's one of the family.
Sigvaldsson's INSISTED he be the one to do it and I don't want to be the one to tell him no. So he's being held responsible for getting a report to command in a few days regarding the investigation.

4 -Sigvaldsson has a new battlecry. "We've come to fuck". At least that's what I think he said. It's hard to tell with the drunken slur he puts on it.

5 -Our mechs have essentially take light or no damage at all this mission thanks to our psychotic Martillo 'friends'.
    Bless their bloodthirsty little hearts.

6 -Be aware of freak weather patterns.
