Tamar Campaign

Short version:
Flush with salvage from our last mission on Weingarten, we need to stop at a major market hub to unload what we don't need and make upgrades as required. The planet Tamar is only one jump away. Being the largest manufacturing and commercial market in the area, it is perfect for our needs. However, the Duke of Tamar, Selvin Kelswa III (http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Selvin_Kelswa_III), is no friend of the FRR. Much of his Tamar March was lost in the treaty signed between the LC and FRR. However, mercenary money is still money and there will be plenty of merchants willing to do business with us planetside. We shouldn't have any problems as long as we stay out of trouble.

Longer version:
After the Weingarten mission, we needed time to rearm and repair. Of all the systems in the region, Tamar was the best place to do this. For centuries, Tamar was home to one of the most powerful governing bodies in the Inner Sphere. A beautiful garden world, Tamar not only held the seat of power for the Tamar Pact, but was a central pilar of industry for the Lyran Commonwealth. After the ceding of many Tamar worlds as part of the Lyran-Rasalhague non-aggression pact, the political strength of Tamar was greatly diminished. However, its unique position along the FRR border has allowed it to continue to flourish as a commercial hub.

This fact has done little to brighten the mood of the Duke of Tamar, Selvin Kelswa III. The loss of so much of his beloved Tamar Pact has turn him bitter in the last decade. Once a firm supporter of the FedCom unification, he now feels betrayed by the very leaders he used to support. His daughter's marriage to his old political opponent, Ryan Steiner, has only added insult to injury. That said, Kelswa is not stupid. Ryan Steiner has very powerful connections and they now have mutual political enemies. The Duke of Tamar hopes that their combined political strength will in some way benefit his beleaguered Tamar Pact in the decades to come.

i will get a write up in the next 48 hours to explain the events of the last two drops. Alpha's drop went about as well as it could go. We had a couple of very close calls. Val had to eject from her Marauder. The rest of us are barely operational. I think we got lucky.

Feb. 14th, 3049 (Standard Terran Calendar)

Someone must have a very cruel sense of humor. An attack on Valentine's Day? Who the hell did we piss off?

For the last month we have been on Tamar resting and rearming after a landslide victory against raiders on Weingarten. On advice from one of my FedCom contacts, we set up for an extended stay in the mercenary district of Tamar City. The area is bustling with every service a merc could possibly need. Maintenance facilities, weapon dealers (both legitimate and slightly less so), logistical and technical support, bars, clubs, entertainment: you name it, Tamar City's got it. We kept our heads down too. With the exception of one bar brawl, we've managed to keep our FRR connections under wraps. Everything was coming together nicely... and then today came... and with it, two companies of mysterious black-painted hostiles.

It became clear even as we fought them that this was no mere raiding party. These mechs came looking specifically for us. Their attacks were targeted directly at each of the facilities we were residing at. Even more alarming, we have failed to capture a single one of them alive. They seem to be hell-bent on some kind of suicide mission to destroy us. I have confirmed reports that a few committed suicide rather than be captured.

Who are they? What are they searching for?

Tamar authorities are holding me and some of my staff for questioning. Before we got seperated, Skwisgaar Faderlos told me he salvaged some hardware from a downed raider's mech. He thinks it might hold data that could help shed light on the situation. I'm not entirely sure what is going on, but I for damn sure intend to get to the bottom of this... one way or another.
